So how long before this jackson thing becomes Obama's fault? There were apparently signs of problems back in 2012. With Jackson possibly giving out drugs inappropriately, it won't be long before it's said that he was Obama's dealer in the WH. Dog whistles will be everywhere.

With all precincts reporting, Steve Stern (D) has bested Janet Smitelli (R) for a Suffolk County #nyassembly seat. Has been in GOP hands since 1978.

It's probably sadly relevant that the Dems ran a person who was unwhite also.

The historical margin of AZ8 makes it seems that if people truly were motivated by Trump's rhetoric and racism that this seat would not have been close. It's hard to claim moral victory in any aspect of life, but Dems continually beat the '16 margin across the nation. This is a very good sign for taking the House back in 2018.

Its already his fault. The strong defense of Jackson that kicked off last night includes mention of Obama ambiguously favoring Jackson. I say ambiguously because, of course, Obama was not stupid enough to mistake a doctor who clearly favors a bit of flattery for a chief executive capable of running a murderously complex healthcare network, and thus did not position him to run more then a medical office.

Now the WH is getting uncomfortable that this will not go away no matter what weight is thrown behind ol' Scotty. There are reports about how long they can logically wait to shift him before his problems become their problem. The play seems to be that someone at EPA told the boss that there were no ethics issues paying $50/night for a bed. Problem is that it might have been both more then a bed, and he might not have honored his part of the contract where you pay for services rendered. Then there are questions about his daughter staying there w/o paying, and, if you believe the lobbyist/owner, without permission. Past that, there was a failure to disclose the landlord is/was a lobbyist. Then there was that mysterious coincidence trip to push US LNG to foreign nations, where the only LNG export capabilities are owned by the condo owner's client, while pitching petro chemical exports is not part of the EPA's mission. Perhaps lastly, if it was all on the up and up, why is the owner of the condo suddenly retiring from his power lobbyist lifestyle?

I don't feel bad for anyone who gets in bed with Trump. The pattern is obvious to anyone--working with Trump is a good way to ruin a career. Only the stupid and the desperate are willing to work with this guy.

"[March 2018] there’s been a more than 200 percent increase in the number of people who are apprehended coming across the border. And, I’ll tell you this, there’s been a more than 200 percent increase in apprehension(s) of heroin coming across the border."

Greg Abbott inciting a little hysteria there. Apprehension wise it is only true when you cherry pick a historically low March 2017, and ignore all other data. The heroin claim appears to be either super secret information only he has, or just a made up figure. 2017 apprehension data show March 2017 at an 18 year low, so through selective comparison you can get the 2018 figure to 207%.

I heard it yesterday, but maybe this is not widely reported yet. Mick Mulvaney talking to 1300 industry executives and lobbyists that they should push lawmakers hard to pursue their shared agenda. To quantify her explained:

“If you’re a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you’re a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you.”“If you’re a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you’re a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you.”

the Amazon Brainwashing/lobbying machine draws this nice line between Mick and his boss

The president himself has repeatedly said that he views politics as transactional. “As a businessman and a very substantial donor to very important people, when you give, they do whatever the hell you want them to do,” Trump told the Wall Street Journal in 2015. “As a businessman, I need that.”

He was asked about that quote during a GOP primary debate. “You better believe it,” Trump replied. “I give to everybody. When they call, I give. And you know what? When I need something from them two years later, three years later, I call them. They are there for me.”

After the ninth hole, about an hour and 45 minutes later, they were told that they took too long a break and needed to leave.

I feel comfortable judging the course owners at this point, until more info comes out.

A Morning Consult/Politico poll found that fewer people were reporting seeing bigger paychecks due to the new tax law than those that did in a survey last month.
The April survey found that 22 percent of registered voters reported seeing paycheck increases, while 55 percent said they hadn't noticed a bump and 23 percent didn't know or didn't have an opinion.

Although the quote is about paychecks, this is related.

My accountant tells me that the lack of SALT deduction is going to make tax planning a tough call this year. NVa is a pretty high tax place between over priced housing, and a personal property tax that is applied against the Blue Book value of our vehicles. The increased personal deduction will help, but I need to decide if I am altruistic or strategic with my charitable giving (side note, it is altruism) because even at a generous level I will see no returns there either. He thinks I will do a little better on Federal, but I am about to get hammered on State.

That said, he tells me his projections for his high wage earners are great and that they will see a lot of relief at the top end.

I have been sounding the alarm bell (hey, that's as a pun I realized after typing it!) at the firehouse about the potential for our fund drive donations to fall off this year. Possibly not significantly, but there will probably be some sort of effect. Everyone else seems to believe that all of our residents are altruistic and will continue donating regardless, but I don't hold those hopes. Even my Fidelity newsletter at the beginning of the year made a recommendation to "re-evaluate your giving strategies" or something like that.

I don't play much golf; just enough to know how frustrating it can be when people are holding things up.

That said, I can't wrap my head around a situation where police would be called for inconveniencing someone's golf game, whatever their color.

Press conference is curious today. I think Sarah was balling out CNN for being combative, went on to a question about Jackson where she railed about his qualifications and that people with experience have done nothing much so this is a different path, then on the EPA... had to bounce.

I was really only there for Jackson stuff, but the other key seems to be misunderstanding background checks VS competency as the head of the key department.

ive never heard of someone getting warned on the second hole or being thrown off for taking a long break. You can break as long as you want after the 9th hole and hop back on

As to the issue of kneeling during the national anthem, Patriots owner Robert Kraft delivered a strong assessment of the Commander-in-Chief’s strategy.

“The problem we have is, we have a president who will use that as fodder to do his mission that I don’t feel is in the best interests of America,” Kraft said. “It’s divisive and it’s horrible.”

Police are called all the time when people refuse to leave private businesses after being asked to... bars and restaurants are probably the most common. Nobody likes being asked to leave, and it probably feels unfair to most people being asked to leave. When people don't comply, police are sometimes called. That said, it's gotta be very rare on the golf course. This is why I'm judgmental of the owners until some other details emerge.

I'm imagining the dialogue went something like

"You are in violation of terms on your scorecard for playing too slow. Please leave the course."
"That's ridiculous. We got through the front 9 in 1:45, and we offered to have the group behind us play through. They declined since they're drinking."
"I'm sorry, but you need to leave, and we'll be forced to call the police if you don't."
"We deserve to play, and we've done nothing wrong. You'll have to call the police for us to leave."
