I just start with the eggs in the pan, bring to a boil, remove pan from heat and let stand for about 15 minutes before an ice bath.

Single use appliances like that offend me.

I've come to a similar conclusion over time. Well, "specialized" single-use appliances. Not my coffee maker or toaster. And my electric kettle is invaluable.

I too have a coffee maker and a toaster. And an air popper. I suppose really a toaster oven would be better than a plain toaster, but the last toaster oven I had caught on fire.

Get one that morphs into a Panini press and a griddle. I think Bed Bath and Beyond has them for around $100.

It was awesome. The hotdog made the circuit and cooked the dog in seconds. If you were late the dogs would explode via electrocution. Admittedly, it is a dumb appliance, but compared to a few things we have sitting around, it was at least used (microwaves were for rich people).
