A lot of this depends on perspective. No doubt we face some real challenges, but watching the push back has been encouraging.

I do believe that much of what the Republicans are doing right now is simply saying the quiet parts out loud--the evil rat fuckers have always been around, and have always found their way into politics and found willing supporters--lots of people supported McCarthy, Helms, Nixon, and so forth. Trump has removed the patina of gentility from all this--so now, Republicans have all fallen in line, and have revealed themselves as what they've always been.

Basically, Trump is really not much different than a slightly less competent version of Bush II, but he lacks the ability to make Republican positions even sound good. The fact is, Republican policies are generally quite unpopular, and without their commitment to maintaining white privilege and the oddities of the electoral college and the way the Constitutional system over-values rural votes they'd be inconsequential as a national party. When you add treason to the mix, I think we are looking at a party in its death throes. (Yes, I know I've mentioned this before, and I've been wrong up to this point--but a strong party doesn't let a Trump seize the nomination.)

This is of course how you explain the budget deal--had the Republicans actually gone ahead and passed the budget they promised, they'd probably lose a lot of their racist base, people who in fact depend on the largess of the federal gummint, even if they don't want to admit it. So they are trying to buy off the electorate until November, hoping to stem the tide, hoping the financial markets don't slump in the meantime.

Weird, I googled adams family (misspelled) and Grandpa because I was afraid I was going to mix up the two and his name and pics were at the top of the list. It's almost like you can't trust the internet.

Blaine Gaskill has been well covered and lauded for his swift action, but it is also noted that the shooter may have killed himself as Deputy Gaskill was firing.
