Deputy press secretary trying to spin. No denial on his comment, just more MAGA.

NOTE: Worth noting JH got bottom paged in giving himself a concussion over the lack of denial. When you want to shovel shat at him about being a R, remember that there are sane republican.

JH supports much of what this administration is doing, including the stuff that hurts poor people and immigrants the most. So we should also remember that. I've seen nothing to make me think he's a racist, but I've seen a lot to say he supports most of the policies that end up hurting people of color more than white people. At the very least, he seems to think punishing poor people (or grossly rewarding rich people) is the best way to run the country and drive growth.

Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for ‘peanuts,’ only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO,"

But why really?

The George W. Bush administration had decided more than a decade ago to relocate the embassy from offices on prime land in the tony neighborhood of Mayfair in central London to a plot on the banks of the Thames in the south of the city. I guess we move backwards on immigration. At least according to the president. He said it was a big step backwards. It doesn't fund his wall properly.

trump essentially admitted he used 'tough' language and that it's because the deal was bad.

so yeah, Dems should give no votes for anything unless they actually get what they want

I completely missed that Kelly Anne was designated the Opiod Czar in November. Just me? I am thinking that there is so much crazy every day that there are whole chunks of things that are news worthy that I am missing. KAC is a horrible person to let in front of a camera, but she has a solid track record of work, so if she can make this move forward in any meaningful way, I'll take it. Especially if it takes her off the surrogate circuit.

The African Union continental body told The Associated Press it was "frankly alarmed" by Trump's comments.

"Given the historical reality of how many Africans arrived in the United States as slaves, this statement flies in the face of all accepted behavior and practice," AU spokeswoman Ebba Kalondo said. "This is particularly surprising as the United States of America remains a global example of how migration gave birth to a nation built on strong values of diversity and opportunity."

But Botswana's government called Trump's comment "reprehensible and racist," saying the U.S. ambassador had been summoned to clarify whether the nation is regarded as a "shithole" country after years of cordial relations.

South Africa's ruling African National Congress called Trump's comments "extremely offensive." Deputy secretary general Jesse Duarte said developing countries do have difficulties but the United States itself has millions of people out of work or without health care, and "we would not deign to make comments as derogatory."

South African opposition leader Mmusi Maimane called Trump's comments "abhorrent ... The hatred of Obama's roots now extends to an entire continent." Uganda's state minister for international relations, Henry Okello Oryem, called the remarks "unfortunate and regrettable" and said he hopes African heads of state will reply at an African Union summit later this month.

African media outlets and the continent's young, increasingly connected population were not being shy.

"Well, that is the perfect definition of racism. That is all I have to say," Kenyan entrepreneur Wangui Muraguri told the AP in his Nairobi office.

Trump's comments were "shocking and shameful" and "I'm sorry, but there's no other word one can use but racist," said a spokesman for the U.N. human rights office, Rupert Colville. "This isn't just a story about vulgar language, it's about opening the door to humanity's worst side," he said.

“We know who he is, and what he says doesn’t surprise anybody,” said Marjorie Villefranche, the director general of La Maison d’Haïti, a Haitian community organization in Montreal. “What Trump said is racist, and it is irresponsible because it threatens to encourage discrimination. That is why Haitians are hurrying to come here.”

tbf- the WH didn't confirm or say it was true, they just didn't deny it right away, which is an admission of sorts

Trump’s supporters at the meeting will say this (or some variation of it): “I’m not going to discuss what was said at the meeting. What I will say is that President Trump wants to protect this country and bring economic growth to it.”

I guess the Trumpers are trying to have it both ways, but though I don't believe the denial, I think it's better that it exists than not, because at least someone in the White House understands why this is a problem.

What is of course more interesting here is that the though back in the gold old days of the Bush administration, foes of immigration were always careful to point out that they didn't have a problem with legal immigrants. But now we know that's not true, and the statements surrounding this deal explain why. They are in fact opposed to immigration and immigrants, and oppose any move that would make it easier for people to come the the US legally.

Finally, Real Clear Politics does not disappoint with its commitment to false equivalency, finding someone in the American Spectator willing to defend Trump's alleged comments.

One more thing--today, in right wing media bias, we have the always reliable NPR (really, yank their fucking funding already--it's not much better than Fox News for people who like soy milk) which reported the story about Trump not visiting the London embassy because Obama's bad real estate deal, but did not include the fact that Bush was the one who set up the embassy move, and the fact that Britain was not enthusiastic about this and there's probably some royal family snubbing Trump going on that was the real reason he's not visiting.

It was edited to include that the Bush administration moved it.
