“This is going to be the new economic challenge for America: people. Baby boomers are retiring — I did my part, but we need to have higher birth rates in this country,” Ryan, a father of three, told reporters as he riffed on how Republicans will tackle entitlement and welfare reform in 2018. “Baby boomers are retiring and we have fewer people following them in the workforce.

”We have something like a 90-percent increase in the retirement population of America but only a 19-percent increase in the working population in American,” he continued. “So what do we have to do? Be smarter, more efficient, more technology … still gonna need more people.”

I popped into CNN's feed of Trump's FBI speech and, I swear, the first two words I heard were "fake news". He simply cannot help himself. I haven't listened to the whole thing but I am sure he also informed everyone there that he won the election too.

If only there was an area of policy that involved bringing more working-age people into the tax-paying population. Maybe the GOP should develop something, something that involves emigrants of a country finding a home in ours. I don't know, I feel like America might be a place that a lot of emigrants would want to move to. It may even be a competitive advantage for the US. I don't know, we'd probably need some people who studied macroeconomics to investigate this issue.

A motion in limine. Daubert.

Good god. I wouldn't hire this person to work in the Civil Litigation or Public Safety Divisions of our AG's office, let alone appoint him as a state court judge (and a lifetime federal appointment is an absolute travesty). Hell, I doubt he'd even make the cut for a first round interview for a litigation spot. He knows some admin law, undoubtedly a lot of election law and legislative process, and that's it. There's nothing wrong with having that resume, but you certainly don't get a plum lifetime spot on the federal bench with it.

I haven't had time to follow up on the speech. But the idea that this is the FBI course for law enforcement make some bit of sense as to why he would go rather than a Cadet graduation class. Or whatever they call their trainees. Did he throw anything out like don't trust the FBI you law enforcement guys I love?

a woman and her family have been given sanctuary at a church in North Philly to avoid deportation

The Hernandez family came to America in August 2015, fleeing the violence of organized drug criminals who killed two of Carmela’s nephews and her brother. Her relatives were taxi drivers, she said, and were murdered when they were unable to pay an extortion fee demanded by gangsters.

She and her eldest daughter were threatened and assaulted by the same criminals, who came to their home and demanded she give over money, she said.

she was twice denied asylum so had to leave the country by today

the philly.com comments tho

Despite a pretty strong economy, Trump's approval ratings continue to sink. Some polls have his approvals in the low 30s, which means basically people who supported him during the primaries. This it seems to me rather unprecedented. Part of the problem is that Trump's appeal in large part depends on the grievances of his supporters, thus he really can't benefit from good news. However, I don't think that makes him immune from bad news.
