Where that is true, Virginia has become ever less purple and ever more blue every election cycle. When I moved here it was decidedly red, but now even places where wealth is king are reasonably solidly blue. Loudoun County, your richest county in the US was Clinton 55 percent & Trump38 percent. While representation tends to be more red due to general incompetence of the local democrats there was this result Comstock (R) 48.77 percent to
LuAnn Bennett (D) 48.73 percent. That 0.04% separation is amazing as I found Bennett to be an unexceptional, uninspiring candidate who seemed to be running on not being Comstock, who herself is an uninspiring fair to average representative, but Bennett seemed to have nothing really substantive to offer other then party change.

here's a report from 2 weeks ago about all this...PREPA declined mutual aid agreements that were already in place to give out this contract

Earlier this week, PREPA CEO Ricardo Ramos told E&E News that his bankrupt utility did not reach out to munis on the continental U.S. because he was unsure it could pay them back for assistance. About 90% of the island remains without power weeks after the storm hit.

The American Public Power Association (APPA), the trade group for U.S. munis, confirmed that mutual assistance programs were not activated, but said PREPA had already contracted with Whitefish Energy by the time the trade group convened a conference call to coordinate aid. PREPA did not respond to requests for comment.

Florida and Texas went this route (if you remember PA sent people down, as did every other state capable) and Congress steps in to reimburse the money to help pay. this is how it usually works.

After evacuating Irma we drove back on Tuesday, 2 days after the storm. The route home was packed with teams of utility company trucks -- more than you could count -- from all over the east going to Florida to restore power. Within 24-48 the vast majority of the east coast of Florida had power restored and we had ours back by Friday.

A 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy has been detained by federal immigration authorities after she passed through a Border Patrol checkpoint on her way to a hospital to undergo emergency gall bladder surgery. The Border Patrol agents stopped the ambulance she was in, then let her move on to have surgery. Eventually she was taken into custody. and is in a San Antonio detention center where unaccompanied migrant children are processed. This sounds like a story about how the system does not work.

Or, it's working as designed.

ICE has been detaining entire families in the Berks 'Residential' Center for years now. This includes children who are citizens. There've been lawsuits, there's weekly protests, etc.

Any semblance of restraint has been let go in the past 8 months or so, so this is only getting worse.

Wow. Team Gillespie very rightly has come out strong against a mailer that has him and Donald portrayed over top of the Tiki Touch mob in Charlotsville. It was disgusting, and was put together by a swift boat type group. Gillespie denounced that quickly. Trump, however, is making it relevant.

OTOH, VA unemployment is at 3.7% so we better get on that pronto!
