I'm pretty sure I remember Trump at GOP candidate rallies and them showing up at his. He ran on their ticket, accepted their nomination at their convention, pushed their agenda, and now he's hoping that agenda gets passed. The fact that he's an idiot and bad at his job changes NOTHING. I'm glad he's ineffective, but it doesn't change who he is or who voted for him (racist assholes or people willing to look past the fact that he was one) or what he wants to accomplish.

JH can take those lies to Redstate or whatever swamp they meet nowadays.

yeah, assuming Trump continues to fail, jersey is previewing what we're going to see everywhere, across all conservative media outlets, including all their loyal followers constantly. it's complete bullshit. Trump is a guy with no decorum that's belief set overlaps 100% with the GOP and their base.

Thought it was veto proofed?

A bill being passed by veto proof majorities in no way prevents a president from vetoing the bill

Forget the rain, its a Trump tweet storm (Saturday edition):

If the Senate Democrats ever got the chance, they would switch to a 51 majority vote in first minute. They are laughing at R's. MAKE CHANGE!

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 4h4 hours ago
....8 Dems totally control the U.S. Senate. Many great Republican bills will never pass, like Kate's Law and complete Healthcare. Get smart!

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 4h4 hours ago
Republicans in the Senate will NEVER win if they don't go to a 51 vote majority NOW. They look like fools and are just wasting time......

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 4h4 hours ago
The very outdated filibuster rule must go. Budget reconciliation is killing R's in Senate. Mitch M, go to 51 Votes NOW and WIN. IT'S TIME!

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 4h4 hours ago
Republican Senate must get rid of 60 vote NOW! It is killing the R Party, allows 8 Dems to control country. 200 Bills sit in Senate. A JOKE!

Donald Trump is currently a Republican. He won the Republican nomination for president, was elected by mostly Republican voters, and is supported by most Republican politicians.

Donald Trump has no loyalty or personal attachment to the Republican Party, and with the departure of Priebus, senior staff in the White House is conspicuously lacking anyone who has any loyalty or personal attachment to the Republican Party.

Donald Trump would not have risen to power in America if it weren't for the conspiracy driven, racist, hateful, stupid & authoritarian policies that the GOP stands for and supports.

I would add that being a republican doesn't mean that you are a racist or authoritarian, but if you voted for the guy, then you are at least willing to use those crappy aspects of humanity to get what you want. I didn't mean to imply any single person is any of those things.

Time to take your party back, JH. It's going to have to be people like you who do it. I genuinely wish you the best in the effort.

Who cares? Admin is pushing an extreme right wing agenda which is a GOP wet dream

The administration isn't pushing anything besides drama and distractions. It's chasing its own tail and the window is closing on anything productive happening. Nothing lasting of the extreme right wing wet dream genre will get accomplished except in the judiciary maybe.

What the members of the Trump administration increasingly share is an inclination toward authoritarianism, a lack of intellectual curiosity, abundant paranoia, and distrust of anyone that does not look and talk like them. While I agree it's not a traditional set of characteristics of what the GOP is, it's finding a home. I think what you're pointing to is a lack of principled positions, thought out, and maintained through more than 1 election cycle. But that's the thing, it's not a set of coherent policy positions that has held that coalition together, or even that is winning elections. Telling a crowd in Ohio that all your manufacturing jobs are coming back still gets applause, even while Trump's businesses outsource their clothing manufacturing and apply for guest worker visas. I think that's what you're referring to. Up today can be down tomorrow, and it doesnt matter.

I pretty much agree with all of this. My concern is that trump is just an extreme version of what the GOP has become. He didn't come out of nowhere. You see the same racist policies in average GOP congresspeople, the same disdain for science and knowledge, the same willingness to just outright lie about things that are obviously not true, the same authoritarian bent. It's watered down Trump, but he has a lot in common with the average GOP person in congress these days. The extreme elements have taken over the party and actually gotten people elected who think like them. We have extreme members in the democratic party, but hardly any of them are in congress. I'm not saying they have no influence, but they don't have much compared to the dem centrists.

So the game plan is to change from representation to rule with low population states getting outsized importants. Basically the House and how many states work. Majority populations become slaved to backwater counties. I think that it has been obvious when certain representatives were rather cavalier in their inerest in things like a hurricane relief, but don't touch my corn and 'no farm' subsidy (which I then double drip by leasing the land to the neighbor to put under crop).

I guess I mean people like him. We need more moderate republicans. I'm not sure if he's moderate or not, but that's what's needed. I know people like to say Clinton and Obama are radicals, but they are very centrist dems.

Nothing. What I was trying to get across was I haven't heard that much about him in the news. No leaks by Mueller and his team. Just work. Won't know anything about his investigation until he's ready to come out with it.
