Because this sweatshort headass used them as props for his diatribe about an issue that, as you say, probably affects few if any of them directly. By using them this way - insisting in his ravings that killing health coverage for fellow Americans would be a good thing, and practically begging the cops to applaud him for it - he made it look like they endorse not only his "let cops beat the bejesus out of anyone they feel has it coming to them" but also his "let's tank health coverage for millions of Americans" - even though that may not actually be their position if they gave it a second's thought.

The boy scouts regretted their association with this sweatshort headass, and expressed that regret in the wake of his repellent appearance at their jamboree. Maybe this law enforcement tribe will reflect on their debasement in the same way; maybe not.

Kelly's a genuine American; jury's out on the rest

I am not too fond of Kelly's approach to things thus far. He's been part of these scummy policies, and he has, or at least seems, supportive of pretty extreme stuff. He has also been an enabler for Trump with the easiest example being when they were together at the Coast Guard Academy.

Past that, I think to be a good CoS you need connections, and I just don't see Kelly bringing that to the table. His calls to members of congress should be clumsy and completely reliant on profile type intel, which will just not be genuine nor will it likely have any impact. Failing that he can slide over to good old Marine intimidation , which will play well with the boss.

One weird point is that I asked around at the beginning of the administration and I cannot get anyone with an opinion of Kelly. My Marine connections love Mattis, but have zero input on Kelly. That strikes me as odd.
