Meant by that a person who has at any point in their adult life prior to June 2015 worked for the party, worked to elect members of the party, been an elected figure within the party, or been a lifelong member of the party.

I would bet Gen. Kelly is a Republican in his political inclination. Bannon is in some way as well, though his stated goal has been the destruction of the GOP.

The vast majority of senior staff in the WH (and the Prez) have absolutely no loyalty to the party.

yeah, he ran a propaganda website that was designed to fire up the GOP base to elect far right, white nationalist candidates. to pretend he doesn't represent the modern GOP is disingenuous. the GOP you believe in is more theoretical than real.

So far it has been a quiet hurricane season, which is a good thing since I'm pretty sure trump hasn't appointed a fema director and now there is no one in charge at dhs.

@ShaunKing The 700th person was just killed by American police in 2017. This year is on pace to be the deadliest year ever measured for police violence

The rhetoric coming from the WH is harmless, all good.

Who cares? Admin is pushing an extreme right wing agenda which is a GOP wet dream

The administration isn't pushing anything besides drama and distractions. It's chasing its own tail and the window is closing on anything productive happening. Nothing lasting of the extreme right wing wet dream genre will get accomplished except in the judiciary maybe.

Gorsuch will have a huge impact for years. ICE is completely unleashed and ruining lives. We've killed more civilians oversees since Jan 20 than the past few years combined. Massive rollback of regulations. Healthcare for millions is in jeopardy. Tax cuts for the ultra rich will be in play for the foreseeable future. Voter suppression underway at the federal level... I can go on and on.

So no lasting policy except whatever improvements happen through the judicial appointments

These things are already disrupting and ruining lives, 4 more years of it will be devastating

On the other hand, any other republican potus would have been able to dismantle aca and been at least as aggressive on deregulation and probably have made the tax code even more regressive and possibly have been able to privatize social security and Medicare and cut Medicaid.

Remember, almost all of what trump is trying to do and failing at spectacularly is the Republican agenda.

well if there's one thing that will make me lose my shit, it's someone pretending that Trump isn't republican. It's just a lie told by liars so they can keep lying to the american people.

I'm pretty sure I remember Trump at GOP candidate rallies and them showing up at his. He ran on their ticket, accepted their nomination at their convention, pushed their agenda, and now he's hoping that agenda gets passed. The fact that he's an idiot and bad at his job changes NOTHING. I'm glad he's ineffective, but it doesn't change who he is or who voted for him (racist assholes or people willing to look past the fact that he was one) or what he wants to accomplish.

JH can take those lies to Redstate or whatever swamp they meet nowadays.

What the members of the Trump administration increasingly share is an inclination toward authoritarianism, a lack of intellectual curiosity, abundant paranoia, and distrust of anyone that does not look and talk like them. While I agree it's not a traditional set of characteristics of what the GOP is, it's finding a home. I think what you're pointing to is a lack of principled positions, thought out, and maintained through more than 1 election cycle. But that's the thing, it's not a set of coherent policy positions that has held that coalition together, or even that is winning elections. Telling a crowd in Ohio that all your manufacturing jobs are coming back still gets applause, even while Trump's businesses outsource their clothing manufacturing and apply for guest worker visas. I think that's what you're referring to. Up today can be down tomorrow, and it doesnt matter.

Trump is a Republican, and has found a base of supporters there. He's struggling with policy because he, or anyone in his admin, cannot express well thought and consistent policy positions. They don't exist on his most fervent supporters. The minority of GOP voters that also oppose Trump are going to keep him from driving this car off a cliff, I hope.
