Help. There's this guy around my age who started attending church regularly for the past year or so. He's a really cool guy. I have never touched on politics with him.

Today, on the way out the door at Bible Study, he goes to me, "Pastor, we'll see you next week if the world doesn't end."

I'm like, "huh?"

He says, "Well, all of those Deep State Republicans like McCain have made sure that the end is coming. They pushed this massive thing that messed up everything, now Putin is kicking out our diplomats and it's all going to lead to the end of days."

I responded with, "well, I don't know about that," and he said, "watch the next few days," and then left.

I want to still like this guy. I think I do. I just feel so horrible that he's so misinformed.

I'm just flabbergasted because there are so many people in this community that eat up this Alex Jones-ish conspiracy shit.

They are not dumb people. They are business owners, successful ones, people who work in local government, and in two cases, school teachers. They have been out in this world beyond this valley and should know better.

I feel like a judgmental asshole when I say that but man, I just can't understand what would possess them to go all in on this crap.

cable news and internet have created echo chambers, it feels comfortable to be assured that your hate/ignorance is validated

in all seriousness, i'd ask him what his news sources are and suggest he broaden his intake to includes ones he may disagree with or ones that are 'mainstream'.

infowars has a million viewers/readers and today it is on about obama working 'with' the media to sabotage trump and us all being too drugged to even work. the rest of it is culture war stuff.

foxnews.com currently has Trump going at Congress for not working correctly, MS-13, an old lady with a gun shooting snakes, and rude/nude panhandlers in NYC

breitbart has John Kelly/Trump, anti-Mexican articles, Californians leaving for Texas due to liberals, and '7 ways trump is taking back America's culture'

if it's any of these or a christan slant of it (lifezette, 700 club, etc), you'll find where he got warped.

Ah, that was the Taj I guess. I saw it when I was a kid, but spent so little time in AC. Spent all kinds of time in OC when you could go miles and miles at the end of the island where there was almost nothing. A recall a Shell store that seemed like it was at the end of the world, but not so much AC. Of course I was hoping it was the Kremlin if being cheeky, but still very wrong.

I remember going to the Taj when it first opened. It was large, but even by the low standards of AC it had an incredibly cheap look to materials and workmanship. Surprised it's still standing.

Barletta told GOP he intends to run against Casey for Senate. I hope an adult Republican primaries him.

Yeah, I was never much for AC, but stopped in to see the Taj because of all the hype. Seemed to have the aesthetic and quality of a mall Santa's Village.

I don't know. Maybe if he ran in 2016, he would have ridden the Trump wave harder than non-committal Toomey. I think in 2018 the wave will have crested, and his racist policies will not play as well statewide.

iirc, Dems have a 4 to 3 edge in registered voters in this state. With the Prez's popularity under 40% Barletta may have a tough time getting elected.
