Never dunked on a regulation net or hit a homer with a wooden bat. I have fouled a ball into my face though, which I'm guessing fewer people have done.

Yeah, that bounced though, same with Pants' one last year. Colin and me, we faceball hard off the bat.

im fairly convinced that the answer is dunk.

Definitely dunk. You don't really have to have any basketball skills to grasp the concept of jumping and putting the ball through the hoop. anyone with the requisite size/ups can do it (granted that's not many, and never included me unless you count that one hoop behind the elementary school with the bent rim.)

Home run of course depends on where you're expected to do it, but if we're talking at least 330 feet (and you have to strike a pitch of at least some velocity), I think that's a much more limited skill set.

fun article on the quest to do so

i dont think there's any world where i could even tough rim again in my lifetime, but i would imagine a higher proportion of society has a better chance at that than having the coordination it takes to hit a homer

then again you have people over 40 that maybe can still swing a bit but def cant jump

There are 11 current NBA players (well as of 2015) who have never dunked while even Ben Revere has hit a HR

I'm going to say dunk, with the caveat of the specifics of the rules. If you get only one pitch to hit, then it's definitely dunk. If you get 3 strikes, then it's still dunk. Heck I'd bet that would be true even among MLB players. But if you get say 1000 swings, then I'm less certain. And are we talking batting practice pitching, or real pitching? If it's real pitching, then maybe even with 1000 chances dunk still wins.

But unless you really tilt the rules to favor the baseball player (Coors field, lots of chances, easy pitching, the player dunking gets one chance and they have to dribble from half court) it's gotta be dunk.

It seems to me the key to the hypothetical is the "without preparation" which means to me they simply hand people a bat and say swing away! Even if you have the strength, and you get lucky with the timing and making clean contact, you've still got to have a ton of coordination to propel the ball over the fence. Now, it might not take much training to get to that point, but it takes some.

On the other hand, I guess if you see hitting a home run as something like hitting a hole in one, you might see a lot of people can get lucky. Pretty much anyone who has played a little golf can hit the ball far enough on a par three and get lucky. But I don't think hitting a homer is really like that.

I think more ppl could luck into a homer. Dunking is physically impossible for most

Gud article on an SI writer's quest to hit a dong

bumping this article -- the dude seemed pretty athletic and still found it hard as hell to try to work up to hitting a homer

but I still go with that because you can't significantly improve your dunking

It basically comes down to how tall you are. A dude 6'4" will probably dunk before hitting a home run. A guy who is 5'8" will probably hit a home run first if he dunks at all.

i'm sorry. the question is if everyone in the entire world tried today, would there be more successful dunks or more successful home runs? you get batting practice and swing until you're tired. still going dunks.

also fuck the people who would be able to do both. aka probably quite a few MLB players.

its a numbers game for sure. but definitely not in baseballs favor.

probably have 10m people in this world that are taller than 6'6"(pretty fucking tall TBH). you think half a percent of them can dunk? that leaves you with 50k people that can dunk in this world.

there's probably 50k people playing pro baseball in this world(college, minors, mlb, foreign countries and most like generous amount there). you think 25% of them can hit a homerun? if so that leaves you with 12500. even at 50% of them you're still off the mark.

just the pure number of tall people in the world give them the edge.
