The Last Thread was a Pre-Existing Condition - Politics

it ain't over, KEEP CALLING:
"We need to start voting" on the GOP bill scuttling much of President Barack Obama's health care law, No. 2 Senate GOP leader John Cornyn of Texas told reporters Monday. Some Republicans said a revised version of the bill could be introduced Thursday, and Cornyn said the "goal" was for a vote next week.

Cornyn cited seven years of unresolved Republican debate over how to replace the 2010 statute during which "we gain a vote, we lose a vote." That underscored a sense among top Republicans that they had little to gain by letting their disputes drag on much further.

Cruz has proposed letting insurers sell any policies they'd like, as long as they also sell one that covers a list of services like maternity care that Obama's law requires. The Cruz amendment was alienating senators like Collins amid concerns it would lead to unaffordable prices for people with pre-existing medical conditions because younger, healthier customers wouldn't be sharing their costs.

Pence endorsed Cruz's plan on Limbaugh's show, saying: "Rush, that's what freedom looks like, isn't it?"

Gorka is making the rounds claiming victory over ISIS for his hero and fearless leader. When questioned about the fact that it started 3 months before the inauguration, which he rejected out of hand. Obama failed, the edge had to phone DC for permission to engage, Obama failed and we won. That is something else.

On pessimistic days, I feel that the dehumanizing of the press/cries of fake news, will culminate in violence against the press in America. On even more pessimistic days, I feel that nothing will change unless a reporter dies.

Nothing changed after Newtown for gun control. Nothing remarkably changed in regards to rhetoric after the GOP baseball shooting.

something called The Point has a kind of interesting essay on neoreactionaries and their discontents. Not much new, but a decent summary, and a solid closing paragraph. I added the emphases:

The fear of political life—of the uncertainty that comes with wanting and doing things with others—has long been a driving force in modern democratic politics. The fantasy worlds of reactionary thought present themselves as an absolute break with the postwar liberal consensus, even with “politics” as such; they are not that, but they are not just illusions, either. In the end, the dream of an “exit” from the contingency and unpredictability of worldly life is still a human one. Against its own claim that “there is no alternative,” neoreaction’s fantasy of an “exit” from history gives evidence, as brutal and real as it imagines, of the political life that we are destined to share.

oh, it changed, all right. After Scalise shooting, a twist: Lawmakers Want To Loosen Gun Laws

I guess I can get a depraved fetish that drives you to want to convert all the planet's metal ore to firearms, but silencers? You NEED fucking SILENCERS?

Lord, grant me the power, just this once, to silence at least one of these imbeciles using only my mind

Oh I know, and I'm optimistic on 97% of days, but then I'm reminded of pizzagate and the GOP shooting. It takes one lunatic with the gun reacting to POTUS' attacks on the media.

n July 29, 2016, Donald Trump addressed a rally in Denver, Colorado:

“Look, we have the greatest business people in the world and we don’t use them. We use political hacks. Some of these business people are not nice people. Who cares? You care? I don’t think so. Some of these business people are vicious, horrible, miserable human beings. Who cares? Who cares?” he repeated, muttering.

Then Trump began to scream.

“Some of these people, they don’t sleep at night! They twist, and turn, and sweat!” he cried, twisting his hand furiously, “and their mattress is soaking wet! Because they’re thinking all night about victory the next day against some poor person that doesn’t have a chance.”

His eyes flashing with panic, Trump kept going.

“And these people – unfortunately, I know them all,” he laughed bitterly. “These people would love to represent us against China, against Japan, against all of these countries…These people. They feel crazy! They feel angry! They cannot believe the deals that are made. We will do things we have never done before.”

Continuing with Dummer Junior and the whole of the whole supporting the regime, obviously the press is corrupt and incompetent working against the people by attacking their crowned ruler, but the issues are:

1. The coverup
2. Adoption is part of the larger embargo
3. His goal was to flip the election by working with a Russian
4. He had no idea who he was meeting with except a Russian
5. Although he was not part of the administration, the others are

Is the rate a conviction? Probably not.

I've probably said this before but I would love to hear Hannity, any F&F hack, or, really, any Trump supporter answer one simple question - what would your reaction to all this Trump-Russia stuff be if it were Obama-Russia or Clinton-Russia instead? We have already seen the uproar from the right over three or four emails out of hundreds of thousands (or whatever the numbers were). In Trump's case, we are talking about a sitting president and his campaign potentially having colluded with an unfriendly foreign government (unfriendly to our nation, as a whole, anyway) to undermine our democratic process.

I can understand the reluctance to rush to judgment; after all, these idiots are actually innocent until proven guilty (as was noted above). But to see/hear them continue to twist themselves into a pretzel to defend Trump and his gang is vomit inducing.

Saw this little tidbit in a Business Insider article:

Veselnitskaya is the family lawyer for Denis Katsyv, the son of senior Russian government official Pyotr Katsyv and owner of the Cyprus-incorporated real-estate company Prevezon. Prevezon was under investigation by the Department of Justice at the time of Veselnitskaya's meeting with Trump Jr. over whether it laundered millions of dollars — allegedly stolen in the tax fraud scheme that Magnitsky uncovered — into New York City real estate.

Gee, any chance the Trump Organization has ties to Prevezon?

The normalization of sensational, unspeakable self interest driven insanity is what disturbs me most. On one hand I don't even want to listen to "the news", but on the other I feel like if I tune it out the real horrible shit happens. It is like a process of desensitizing, or, more plainly, retraining.

Is it amazing that a guy like Gorka is still around? His dirty ass was supposed to be gone months ago when his full support of a nazi type organization was exposed, but here he is. Its just another log on the fire.

this david brooks piece

Recently I took a friend with only a high school degree to lunch. Insensitively, I led her into a gourmet sandwich shop. Suddenly I saw her face freeze up as she was confronted with sandwiches named “Padrino” and “Pomodoro” and ingredients like soppressata, capicollo and a striata baguette. I quickly asked her if she wanted to go somewhere else and she anxiously nodded yes and we ate Mexican.

i get his initial point (not everyone eats the same foods/has the same entertainment and that can lead to people seeking out their own packs and that trickles into sorting society out) but damn if he didn't david brooks his way around that piece. 'my dumb-ass friend didn't know what ham was'

i also think this mentality doesn't give enough credit to people; non college-educated people or those on the lower economic scale are not goddamned cavemen
