I think this answer changes drastically depending on what/if anything happens with these investigations, and whether or not Trump makes it to 2020. If he makes it to 2020 it would be very interesting to see if he has to fight a real primary or not.

I dunno. I've been wrong about everything for the past two years. But I'd still put my money on the young, compelling guy who has been elected statewide in the biggest swing state twice being relevant. In the past 10 presidential elections the GOP nominee has been someone who lost previously seven times - GWB and Trump as the exceptions. I don't know if being pro or anti-Trump will be helpful in the short and medium term, or if the more anti-Trump than most supporters and more pro-Trump than the pocket of strident opponents in the party balance Rubio has been aiming for will be the sweet spot or if it'll be insufficient to both groups, but he's good at politics so feel comfortable betting on him figuring it out.

It's hard for me to envision a milquetoast Republican being elected. But I too have been wrong about a lot for a while
