His point was socialism is bad. It is not. Capitalism itself ain't doing too hot
I remember when I joined this board, I delighted in contrasting Capitalism with what we have in the states, a corporatist hybrid of market-based systems set up with exceptions carved for tons of special interests. Conservatives love to suggest the US is moving toward socialism(eg. decreasing score of US on world economic freedom indicators, increasing gov't spend as proportion of GDP, etc) and liberals love to suggest is a failing capitalist state (eg. growing inequality, decreasing social mobility, lagging on various happiness metrics, etc).
If I had money to buy toilet paper, but instead was wiping my ass with leaves, I'd be pretty pissed at the system of pricing controls, whatever they were labeled.
