It seems like a good idea to force companies to actually use the correct measurements.(A) I have to say that I do a fair amount of building things and I never knew the dimensions aren't correct.(B) I could see people purchasing the wrong sizes because of it(C), though I would think you could return the lumber if it wasn't used yet. Anyway, seems silly to try to get rich off of it, but I can see the merit of making the change.

yep. What kinds of readings did they get? (i'm assuming you called the fire company).

35-60 in the house, 60 near the dryer.

that was just from faulty memory. So I pulled the plans. Specc'd as '1 3/4" x 9 1/4" LVL SUPPORT BEAM B.O.' (and 'LEDGER' on the other side). (The "O" being me).
And the lumber delivered was actually too BIG, now that I think further. I posited that if I had a few extra hands (4 of them were 24'-6") I could drag my table saw into the driveway and rip them down to proper width. Now that I google, some mfgrs say 9-1/2 is the standard size; other say it is available in both 9-1/4 and 9-1/2. I guess Shelly had sent my 9-1/2. Hooray for standards!
