It's interesting. If Putin wants Trump to make some concessions in Ukraine or the energy market, having electorates that hate the other country's leader certainly makes it tougher. On the other hand, there's just way too much smoke for there not to have been some collusion. Maybe they both already got what they really wanted from the deal, Trump got to be prez and Putin got an american leader tearing the country apart from the inside. Or maybe that was the deal in the first place.

I think it's more that Putin either wanted to weaken a Hillary Presidency, or figured that Trump would be a lot easier to manipulate.

never assume nefariousness when simple incompetence or idiocy is the likelier answer. re: trump/russia the guy is a moron and, despite his protestations to the contrary, is pretty bad at hiring people. no one of substance in the Republican Party wanted to assign their futures to what they surely thought was a foolish freakshow, so he got the scum of the earth and a bunch of loyalists. it just so happens a few of those scum are apparently compromised.

and yeah, putin was definitely about weakening Clinton moreso than getting Trump elected, but once you see a chance you take it.

I think he has way too many connections of his own for him not to be at least somewhat aware. Despite protestations from the left, the guy isn't a complete idiot. He has no idea what he's dong as prez, but he's been involved in some shady business stuff and almost certainly money laundering. You don't pull that off for as long as he has if you're a complete fool. His mind is going though.

he's completely out of his element right now. I also think he's a guy who has some early signs of dementia, like many people his age.

I should have linked...

wilbur ross, trump's commerce secretary, was Vice Chairman of Bank of Cyprus from 2014-17 and then resigned to join Trump. Bank of Cyprus, along with Deutsche Bank, was recently accused of funneling Russian money into NYC. Deutsche Bank was Trump's go-to place for loans once american banks stopped giving him money. They had to pay almost 2/3 of a BILLION dollars in penalties.

Ted Kennedy Jr, a fairly newly minted (2nd term) CT state senator, has kinda-sorta made clear he's not running for governor.

Why, gee, thanks, Senator - that'll save anyone the trouble of actually asking you to do so, since pretty much no one was going to
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Trump called Erdogan to congratulate him on killing democracy.

https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... atulations

Donald Trump called to congratulate Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hours after the Turkish president claimed a narrow victory in a contested referendum that will grant him sweeping new powers, according to the White House.

International observers monitoring the Turkish referendum concluded in a preliminary report on Monday that the campaign and vote took place in a political environment where the “fundamental freedoms essential to a genuinely democratic process were curtailed”.

Turkey vote curtailed fundamental freedoms, say European observers

The US president spoke on Monday with Erdoğan, whose triumph in the constitutional referendum escalated concern over his increasingly authoritarian grip on power.

Trump’s congratulatory message strikes a starkly different tone than the statement issued by the US state department on Monday, which urged Erdoğan to respect his citizens’ fundamental rights and noted the report’s findings of “irregularities on voting day and an uneven playing field during the difficult campaign period”.

the Trump base and most of the GOP base lean heavily fascist or at least are fascist fanaticizers.

it's complicated, Calvin. But among many other issues that one might have with a Mr. K candidacy here in the Nutmeg State, we just really don't need dynastacists right now. I feel it's good he realized it himself.

Tom Cotton, supposedly a smart guy, attempts to defend drumpf's stubborn stonewalling on his tax returns by trotting out the idiotic lie that he's under audit.

Why would he do that, when it is and has long been glaringly evident to every single breathing adult in the USA that that is total bullshit?

I mean, if he's smart and all?

It isn't good for him; it isn't good for drumpf; it isn't good for any constituents, whether they love him or they hate him.

So, why?

Completely agree. Keep seeing Chelsea Clinton being pushed and I cringe. Want all these families to take their money and please go away

People seem to be into Joe Kennedy though.

Maybe it's because he is younger and more attractive.
