Paul Ryan explains how disgusted he is that people in society are supposed to help the people who aren't as privileged or fortunate than them.

hmmm, after watching that video, i gotta side with savior here. Paul Ryan does not understand how insurance works. Or else he's being purposefully disingenuous because party before country.

Of course he does. It's fun to pretend someone else is dumb by taking them out of context to miss their point.

not going to pretend I'm an expert on Health Care, but how would a risk pool reduce the overall costs? it's still ultimately going to be funded by our main source or revenue, tax dollars, so if the revenues are being subsidized by the Feds and the States, people are still going to pay for that, unless the plan is to charge more for people in the risk pool. the way he described it, it seems like it's likely to be the latter plus of course a general ambivalence if those people can't afford it and die.

How does the longer video show RyanCare is a better way? All he says is that instead of the larger population of individual insurance buyers paying for the sick, the states will be able to set up high risk pools which will be subsidized by the Federal government.

IOW instead of healthy insurance buyers subsidizing the unhealthy, healthy taxpayers will subsidize the unhealthy. It's just a financial shell game.

Of course what he's really saying is that, because the high risk pools will be subsidized through Medicaid block grants and those grants will be frozen, there will be less and less over time to pay for subsidies. Someone will have to make up the difference, whether it's the states and their taxpayers or the unhealthy themselves. If not, those in those high risk pools will no longer be able to afford health insurance.

Ryan doesn't care whether the result is higher state taxes or the unhealthy not being able to afford health insurance. He will have capped costs of Medicaid at the Federal level and if the states increase taxes to cover increased costs or let people go without health insurance he can blame the states. Not his problem!

a reminder

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump said. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.” People covered under the law “can expect to have great health care. It will be in a much simplified form. Much less expensive and much better.”

If there's one thing we've learned from republicans, it's that winning is the only thing that matters. If it didn't mean selling our souls, as the GOP clearly has (to the russians, it appears), I would say we should adopt their tactics across the board.

It's not that Ryan is dumb, that clips shows he wants sick people to not have health care so people like Ryan can enjoy watching them die. What's not clear is if he's rooting for them to die in agony. I guess that's the part that's left out of the clip.

I'm in the health insurance business. When it comes to health insurance, Ryan does not know his ass from his elbow. And he's the best the Rs have.

I listened to Ryan prattle on this morning/afternoon about his bill. He attempted to use a small business to illustrate one of his examples. All it revealed was his abject ignorance of how over 80% of employers in the US purchase and provide health coverage.

And his fetish for "risk pools" ranks up there with his colleagues' hyperventilation about cross border insurance sales, and all Rs' apparently newly minted (originating shortly after drumpf's victory) fetish for counting counties
