no no no, they hacked the DNC and made it look like the Russians, and wanted it to be discovered, so that everyone would obviously THINK that the russians did it in collusion with drumpf, so that HRC would be declared the winner by forfeit.

Please try to keep up
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

of course had there been confirmation hearings for Garland we'd be clearer about whether this was an accurate forecast or not

Hopefully the Dems are forced to filibuster by their base, so McConnell can unleash the nuclear option, allowing any other nominee from Mr. Trump who might actually change the balance of the court to be confirmed by majority vote. Easy to see Collins/Murkowski and maybe institutionalists like McCain unwilling to go nuclear in that situation when doing so for such a well qualified nominee filling a slot held by an arch conservative is significantly less difficult.

Gorsuch should be looked at as a gift as Trump & Friends could have done so many other horrible things. He is not a bad candidate, but in light of the stupidity of the Merrick Garland affair, it is sad. No one except crazy liars can make a reasoned case against Garland. Hell, he might have been the most seasoned, qualified and proven justice nominee in my life time. So the GOP brought that shame forward, and shows it has no actual interest in the proper governance of the US, only partisanship.

I would argue that in order to have proper governance the country needs a court that protects our constitutional rights without inventing new ones while serving as a check on the power of the federal government, and we're more likely to get that from a court with Gorsuch on it than Garland. So there was plenty of interest in the proper governance of the US. Democrats would've done the same if roles were reversed, and not because they are terrible partisans, but because the court is important and the parties disagree on it.

thephan wrote:Regarding the nuclear option, that would finish the decent into autocracy. If that route is taken, there is no real reason to believe in the system representing the will of the people. It is as simple as that. Honestly, as a frequent JH defended, and as at least on PM said apologist, the desire to use the nuclear option is truly the worse thing you have said in memory.

For those who have not lived under an actual nuclear threat, the term carries weight as it is assured unilateral destruction, which was omnipresent throughout my childhood. The fear, almost expectation, of total obviation was a source of constant threat whenever tensions were high, which was often. That is not the United States of America that the Founders established, in fact it is they type of tyrannical rule that they rebelled against.

The nuclear option would mean a simple majority of the Senate could end debate on nominations, rather than needing 60 votes. I don't know if this is satire or sarcasm or something from you, but Mitch going nuclear - bringing the same confirmation standards to SC justices as Harry Reid brought to the rest of the Senate Judiciary & executive branch nominees - is a somewhat different prospect than nuclear annihilation at the hands of the Soviet Union or tyranny or autocracy.

Sure, but the courts should also recognize that society changes. And what worked 50 years ago may not work anymore.
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

the equivalent of the Democrats rigging the popular vote by millions but losing 3 states by 60,000 votes and also losing both the House and Senate

what was amazing about Chris Hayes' interviews with RWNJs Steve King (IA) & Lance (NJ) last night was not their ignorance of specifics about the Rs ACA repeal legislation & process, but that they had no idea how many of their own constituents have ACA policies. Lance made a stab at it & was off by 5X. King just basically declared he didn't give a shit about any of them.

My followup question would have been to ask if they'd talked with CEOs of hospitals in their districts to find out what impact their bungling would have on those institutions' fortunes, staffing/hiring, etc

Come on, name their leader, besmirch the name of Sean Hannity.

So with renewing the war on drugs, I assume we'll also get lots more civil asset forfeiture. Some conservative types really hate that for the right reasons. Bit for some reason I don't expect to see much pushback there either.

They definitely do. People reform & change their opinions all the time. It's a matter of how. My thoughts on this aren't fully formed, but at the very least, the Dems need to start saying, it's OK that you're white, it's OK that you're suburban, it's OK that you (likely) didn't go to a great school. I think there is a message of exclusion & classism that comes from the left. I think a lot of this is a pendulum swing to the anti-white sentiment you see coming from the left. If the Dems could figure out a way to message to these people to say, yeah white Americans & Europeans have wrought an immense amount of pain and slaughter on the world, but you as an individual aren't responsible for that, you have the capacity to be a positive force in history, it would mitigate some of these on the fence white nationalists.

spicer opens today's presser jabbering for about 10 minutes with his lapel flag pin on upside down. Press corps laughs at him in unison

fully expecting reactionary apologists to gin up pshopped pics of POTUS or HRC with flag pin absent or upside down or with russian flag or devil cult symbols

I'll start to point it out. You probably don't notice it because you're not overly sensitive and realize the critique isn't about you as a person.

That video was fucking terrifying. I had to laugh at the Vietnam Vet though when he called liberals enemies of freedom. As my Dad used to say, "What a maroon".

spicer confirms drumpf perfectly fine with 2017 medicaid rollback included in current house aca repeal/reform measures. Only about halfway through, spicer realized he was painting drumpf into a bad corner & accelerated his wpm to full panic mode
