It's a dog, dog, dog, dogworld

The guys talking about cats in new user thread reminded me, time to revive the doggie topic. Some may recall I used to post lots of foster puppy pics when we lived in Texas and were part of one of those "underground railroad" programs (southern strays go north to a better life). Now here in Phila, we don't have as much space given our 75-lb Maggie is already on the scene.

But my wife discovered City of Elderly Love which finds temp homes for senior dogs who have come free for various reasons. We just hosted 12-year-old Scooby for a couple weeks - wish it was longer but a Jersey shore family snapped him up as soon as he was eligible. Great experience, we'll probably host another next month.

Had another foster success via City of Elderly Love. 10-year-old Lucky, whose previous owner gave him up because they had "too many" dogs already, now lives happily in Wilmington with a big yard and two cats.

He came to us not neutered and had some indoor accidents, so we had to put him in a bellyband for a while. As he got comfortable, and then had his snip-snip operation, that problem went away and he could run free without his daisy dukes. Good boy!

There was a FB post from a shelter about a 13 year old, 21 pound schnoodle who had 1 owner die and the other placed in assisted living. I told my wife to submit an application to the shelter mostly thinking that he would already be adopted or that the line would be long for him. Well, they just called me. They reviewed my app, it looks great and we are meeting the dog tomorrow.

It doesn't look like the dog that we adopted in January is going to make it through the day. :(

He was fine this morning but threw up twice today and my wife and son found him unresponsive on the kitchen floor a couple hours ago. He has had breathing problems (and congenital heart failure) since we got him (and has gotten worse lately). The vet thinks he may have aspirated some liquid when he threw up earlier and that he won't recover. He's on oxygen among other things right now at the vet and I am heading over there at 4:30 to see what our options are.

Sorry to hear about that, good for you for taking on an aging dog in the first place. Sounds like you gave him a great home in a tough situation.

Thanks, pals.

He never recovered. He wasn't with us very long but he made a big impact.

Sorry for your loss. Adopting a senior dog is such a great act of kindness and compassion.

Took my dog for a walk this morning, everything as normal as ever. Vet thinks he ruptured a fluid sac, likely cancerous, that filled a void around his heart. Draining didn’t help. He’s not going to make it.

I’m heartbroken.
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?
