just got off the phone with my sister-in-law who delivered some sad news. my brother's retired K9 Pako has cancer and will have to be put to rest in the coming days. i lived with my brother for a couple of years and love this dude like my own. i'll be in florida for two more weeks and won't get home to say goodbye, but hopefully i can facetime him to say my peace.

pako was an awesome police dog. found multiple elderly patients who wandered away in cold temperatures, undoubtedly saving their lives. also made numerous drug busts. really sad for him that he didn't get to enjoy his retirement more. here's a picture from a time we were just hanging out and relaxing.

thanks for all the thoughts. my brother and his family decided to give him 48 hours to get loved on and he is now at peace. he fittingly received a police escort home to his final resting place.

My parent's dog, Buster, is probably days away from dying. He hasn't eaten really anything for days. Can barely walk. My dad doesn't want to let go though. He just took him to Penn for the fifth or sixth time since November. 800 dollar visit.

Working from home today so it has been sad to see Buster barely be able to move around. Every time he falls asleep I am afraid he is dead.

I hate that this thread gets bumped only when there's bad news. Where are the happy dog updates?!!!!!

Abby, our backup dog, is a rescued Rat Terrier. She had a crash vs. a boulder a few years ago and squished a vertebrae in the middle of her back. She is paralyzed in her hind quarters.

But she leaned how to walk and run and jump. She is doing great!! She is loved and cared for exceptionally well.

SK and mickbayne have seen her. She is an amazing little girl.

my boxer has discovered/started to sniff a lot more. Part of me feels really bad because he hasn't really been a dog until we got him a couple of years ago, but also makes me very proud that he has found the value of his nose at this stage of his life.

Went with mom to put him down just an hour ago. Dad couldn't bear to go.

Caring for things is hard because eventually, in some way, you have to stop caring.
