this needs to be a wakeup call. we have fostered a culture of violence and indifference. mental illness is a red herring. countries who don't have guns don't have these mass shootings. i have no faith left in humanity or this county's future. we should all be outraged, and if you can still defend guns today then fuck you, your values are truly twisted and i don't want anything to do with you.

No offense, but I doubt the parents seeing the dead body of their child is going to make them feel any better. I'd rather have the authorities do whatever they have to do properly.

No offense, but you're 100% wrong about that. That would literally be the only thing I would be thinking about at this point.

Holy fucking shit. That's the most devastating thing I can ever imagine, and I don't even have kids. Couldn't they just get a class roster and identify kids or something?

I think mostly people are reacting to the horror of parents having to wait hours and hours, through a long night, to embrace their dead children, children they know are dead and mere feet away from them, because of some "proper procedures" that "authorities" have to carry out.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

there is a real affect that happens when someone is able to have closure with the physical body of a dead relative. this is the purpose of a funeral, sk.

Sorry, just catching up on this thread now, but I wanted share a story from my Catholic school. I had a quasi-friend in Catholic school for years who was always just a really shy and independent kid. Up through 4th grade, he was always just really quiet and shy and I was probably his best friend even through we never really hung out much. In 5th grade, he started to get into trouble a lot. He would ask unusual questions to the teachers during classes and always seem to act out when he didn't get the answer he wanted. I know he started seeing the Diocese' Guidance Councilor in the 7th grade because he was getting put in detention almost every other week(our school only had detention once a week for some reason). I always sympathized with him, but others in my class where relentlessly teasing him and bullying him and when that happened, I would usually just keep my mouth shut. This kid came to me one day and told me how miserable he was at the school and just wanted to leave. I told him he should go talk to the principal about how he was bullied and teased, he did, but nobody really did anything to stop it. He ended up getting kicked out of the school halfway through 8th grade because, i think, he just couldn't take it anymore.

I think about this kid often, I wish there were a way to contact him now, but he's not on Facebook from the searches I've done and I heard his family moved away after he finished 9th grade. I always felt bad for the guy. My point is, sometimes the sense of community Catholic schools build can exclude those who think differently and drive them away. My limited involvement with that kid had a huge roll in me losing my faith in the Catholic church for obvious reasons.

I don't think it would help me at all, but then again, I'm not a parent. If one of my family members where brutally murdered I wouldn't even want to see the body, I'd be so depressed by it.

I hope that people spend the same amount of time calling their congressmen/women and demanding they do something about guns as they did praying today.

Yesterday my wife and I dropped our daughter off at day care and went down to the valley to get some stuff done (very rare not to have her with us). We ended up just missing the bus and then just missed the cog, which made us late to pick her up. The whole way up the mountain, I was thinking about how she was probably sitting there wondering where we were and why we hadn't come to get her. It actually had me pretty upset and mad at myself for not being more careful about the bus times. I can't imagine how the parents of children who died must be dealing with what the last moments of their child's life must have been like. I couldn't get my daughter's sad face out of my head and that completely pales to what these kids went through. This just breaks my heart. I usually don't get emotional about these killing rampages, but this one is different.

this is a lot like columbine. parents were told to go to two locations to see if their kids were there.

pretty soon, buses stopped coming from the school with kids on board, so parents started to find out that way. Even after the last bus arrived, some waiting parents were told one more was coming (it never did).

I just can't imagine basically playing the lottery to see if your kid is ok.

they also had to leave the bodies at columbine for several days. two were outside the building. Just can't imagine that as a parent
