It helps if you've read Tarkin (came out last year) as well, but it's not a must.

you're the SW book man, what's it about?

Basically the origins of the Death Star project and the relationship between Krennic and Galen Erso (Jyn's father), with some Tarkin-y goodness thrown in. Galen is a genius in all areas, but especially in energy research. He'd been researching Kyber crystals (the crystals the Jedi use to power their lightsabers) and trying to figure out how to make sustainable clean energy for poor planets.

Krennic, who is in charge of the superweapon portion of the DS project, manipulates Galen into refocusing the research in a way that leads to the Death Star's superweapon. He's basically the SW version of Einstein--he didn't build the atomic bomb, but without his unparalleled genius and theories, no one else could've made the weapon work.

We also meet a helpful smuggler (not Han Solo) who turns out to have a heart of gold (again, not Han Solo) and Forrest Whittaker's character Saw Gerrera.

It's especially interesting because it starts one year into the Clone Wars and ends two or three years after Order 66. It also clarifies why it took nearly two decades to make one DS but the second was so much more quickly accomplished (although I still believe that Palpatine was already building the second one before the first was destroyed).

Target will donate $5 to UNICEF from every purchase of these "Force 4 Fashion" t-shirts. They're only $12.99 in the first place, so that's pretty awesome.

You can get the Boba Fett lid fitted Phillies cap for $9 today (but the discount makes it too cheap to get free shipping). You may as well throw in the for $18 to get you back up over the shipping limit.

Paid for my ticket using Visa Checkout because I didn't feel like going downstairs and getting my wallet. Got an email today for a free movie ticket for using Visa Checkout.

Did TFA last year with my son's Cub Scout pack, we rented a theater and saw it Saturday morning of opening weekend with the pack picking up the cost. They told us they were doing the same this year for Rouge One, so I didn't get tickets for the public on sale thinking I was gonna do the Cub Scout showing at 9 am on Saturday, then last week they sent out the sign ups and wanted $10/person plus donations (for the pack). I said FUCK THAT, I give more in time and money than anyone else in that group, so they can fuck themselves. They needed to sell 250 tickets to break even, and only 50 people signed up.

In any event, I got tickets for Saturday at the AMC painters crossing (fork and screen) for like $10 more total and it's in 3D with assigned seating and I got middle seats.

For anyone who has seen Rogue One, I have a general question: I have heard the film is darker, more "gritty" than other SW films. Any thoughts on taking younger children who otherwise have been fine with the Star Wars films? My boys are 7 and 9 and are real eager to see it, but I'm a little concerned based on what I'm hearing.

I heard there's a whole bunch of killing, but in the "eh, they're faceless stormtroopers and there's no blood so it's fine" PG-13 way.

There's kind of a lot of death, but it mostly isn't graphic.

I'm not taking my six year old to see it. Your 9 y.o., fine, but 7... I don't think I'd do that. But everyone's different.

In the last few minutes, there is some legitimately scary shit.
