"The Phillies are in discussions with the Indians to obtain left-hander Cliff Lee and possibly another player for Class A right-hander Jason Knapp, Class AAA right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson, according to a major-league source.

Carrasco was scratched from his start for the Class AAA Lehigh IronPigs on Wednesday, and Donald and Marson were not in the lineup. It was not known whether Donald and Marson had scheduled off-days for an 11 a.m. start after a night game."

Rotoworld is calling this "a formal offer".

From RealKen
The Phillies are in discussions with the Indians to obtain left-hander Cliff Lee and possibly another player for Class A right-hander Jason Knapp, Class AAA right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson, according to a major-league source.

Carrasco was scratched from his start for the Class AAA Lehigh IronPigs on Wednesday, and Donald and Marson were not in the lineup. It was not known whether Donald and Marson had scheduled off-days for an 11 a.m. start after a night game.

Talks remain fluid — the Phillies also are talking to the Mariners about left-hander Jarrod Washburn, and the Dodgers planned to make a "hard push" for Lee on Wednesday, according to a source.

oh, nevermind

Holy shit alot happened while I taught class.

The thing I was thinking all along is (even if the Phillies now appear not to be getting Halladay): why would Toronto want Halladay to start tonight? Not one good thing could come of it.

Zolecki on with Gargano

-Jays thought the Phillies were bluffing on Lee
-Will probably reach out to the Phillies as it's still the best fit
-Jays are not moving off Drabek

They would be conceding that they are trading him. JP has been spending weeks trying to convince potential trading partners that he's perfectly happy keeping him.

LOL! Gargano talking about the rotation being too left handed. Like Cole and Lee are specialists or something.

Which is why I predicted they would trade Halladay BEFORE 3:00 today.

Its never been the Phillies nature to do a deal in the waning hours of the deadline (or to ride out free agency for the bargains). They tend to live in fear of being the team that will end up without a chair when the music stops. I think a deal today or tomorrow is far more likely than one on Friday.

I wouldn't include Knapp. IMHO, were it to take that to get Halladay, I'd rather go for Lee if the rumored deal is there. Though I'd be perfectly fine with the above deal for Halladay if it ends up there.

This sucks. I wanted Halladay. :(

I know, Cliff Lee is good and all. And he's younger.

Yep and given the fact that Halladay starts today and Lee is scheduled for Friday I would think that a move would need to be today or tomorrow so that neither player starts for its old team and risks injury

Why? Towards the close of any auction is when the bidding gets serious.

B/c it hasn't changed much with the other rumors. The ante hasn't been upped much, if any, for Halladay. It's pretty rare in a baseball trade for a team to have many prospect packages they're interested in, and for all those teams involved to have the ability to keep upping the ante, too

[quote="ek"]well they aren't going to get him if they don't give up Drabek[/quote

I never had a problem with giving up Drabek. My issue was always giving up Drabek AND either Brown or Taylor. I'd do a deal based around Drabek and Happ too.

Drabek, Happ, Donald, Marson. If you can get that deal for Halladay, that's the deal to do.
