This makes no sense at all since they will be putting themselves in exactly the same position if they don't trade him now.

This is more posturing. I don't know why I keep refreshing this page to read a bunch of cap I don't believe.

If Kyle Drabek is the deal breaker he appears to be based on media reports, then it’s tough to wonder why Roy Halladay hasn’t pitched yet for the Phillies.

No, this isn’t to say the 21-year-old righty from Texas is not a good pitcher. Far from it. Certainly if the Phillies top pitching prospect were working with Major League fielders behind him, his line would have looked much better from Monday night’s start against the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs of the Red Sox system.

However, there are not three pitchers better than the Blue Jays’ Halladay, and if the rumors are true, Drabek is the one player the Philadelphia Phillies refuse to part with. Sure, Halladay might be a Hall-of-Fame caliber pitcher, one that could turn the Phillies into instant World Series contenders the moment he slips into the red-and-white pinstripes, but Drabek …

Is he getting paid by the word? Jesus.

Just sayin', bro.

And, I worked for the New Era when you worked for the Intel. 96-98. You remember the story about NCAA basketball violations at Millersville U? I broke that story.

Chris Pronger is gonna fuck Halladay up if he goes into the slot.

Higgins, Dubinsky, Staal, and the rights to Nikolai Zherdev for Halladay and a PTBNL. With Gaborik, Halladay, and Lundqvist the Rangers would be a good team but they'd probably have cap issues.

Win deals, if possible.

That's the question, Housh. Everyone (including me) hopes Rube's strategy pays off and we get him for less. Who knows? It might and we'll know by Friday.

The question is, though, if it gets to 4PM on Friday and Riccardi (however irrationally) insists on his price, do you walk away just on a point of principle? Sure, if you honestly believe that not trading those 3 prospects for Roy Halladay is the better choice for the team, you walk away and live to fight another day. But I wouldn't let the principle stand in the way of making the deal. At the critical moment, the determining factor is what's best for the team (factoring in the myriad of considerations we've discussed here). If it's best for the team/franchise, you walk away. If not, you do the deal, irrespective of the principle.

"If we don't get him ... it'll be, 'Why didn't we do it?' " center fielder Shane Victorino said on Sunday. "Are you really that focused on the future when to me the future is now? We won last year. Halladay could potentially take us back there to win another championship. When a guy like this is available, how can we not get him?"

Quotes like that make me fear the pressure on Drabek if we don't get Halladay.

Exactly. Shane do your job and let Smuggy do his. I'm sure Shane has no interest in seeing 2 guys who could take his job when his arb years are up out of the organization by then.

I hope that Happ knows better than to take that personally, but I hear where you guys are coming from. Nor do I blame the players that they want to add the best arm in the game; remember when we (I, anyway) used to worry that the players didn't care as much as we did?

Stepping back from it, what a few months for Happ--lost the starter job in ST, had no clear role in the bullpen, was great anyway, joined the rotation, performed superbly, and now is at the center of the baseball world. Whatever happens, he'll have a lot to think about this off-season.

Go $&#@ yourself Shane. Instead how about saying "He'd make it a little easier, but we don't need him to win the World Series. Just look at last year." It's pure selfishness on your part to say that the team shouldn't care about the future, when you'll no longer be here, they should only care about the years that you're here.

And "the future is now" is one of the dumbest expressions of all time.

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins said basically the same thing last Saturday, suggesting management should go get the Toronto right-hander "almost regardless of what the asking price is."

New trade proposal: Victorino and Rollins for Halladay and Scutaro. "They said to do it regardless of the price."
