We do know getting Halladay greatly improves the team now, and for playoff matchups, and for two years, and then two draft picks will come back if they don't sign him. We just don't know what the prospects will do, and if it's a solid shot at the WS, or lessening the margin of error by a bit, then go for it.
Say the Phils do keep the prospects. What happens when they find themselves in a similar position 5 years from now? Wait again? When is the right time, if not when you're knocking on the door after being there the night before?/ptk
I understand. I'm not sure what the margin for error is either. But I do know that I feel better about those 3 prospects than I have about any Phillies prospects in the last 10 years not named hamels, utley, or howard. Sometimes I'm wrong, but I don't think so this time. I would trade Drabek for him because we are trading a pitcher for a pitcher and I can justify it since pitchers can go down with arm trouble so easily. But I really like Brown and Taylor, especially Taylor. I get the same vibe about taylor as I did about Howard when lots of people were willing to trade him. Again, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm weighing the possibilities and how much I think Halladay will help our chances of winning another WS (I believe he helps less than people seem to think), and I'm making my best guess at what will help our odds the most.
