Monty kills the Halladay hard on

The Dude wrote:MB, it's just that we don't know what the margin for error is. We do know getting Halladay greatly improves the team now, and for playoff matchups, and for two years, and then two draft picks will come back if they don't sign him. We just don't know what the prospects will do, and if it's a solid shot at the WS, or lessening the margin of error by a bit, then go for it.

Say the Phils do keep the prospects. What happens when they find themselves in a similar position 5 years from now? Wait again? When is the right time, if not when you're knocking on the door after being there the night before?/ptk

I understand. I'm not sure what the margin for error is either. But I do know that I feel better about those 3 prospects than I have about any Phillies prospects in the last 10 years not named hamels, utley, or howard. Sometimes I'm wrong, but I don't think so this time. I would trade Drabek for him because we are trading a pitcher for a pitcher and I can justify it since pitchers can go down with arm trouble so easily. But I really like Brown and Taylor, especially Taylor. I get the same vibe about taylor as I did about Howard when lots of people were willing to trade him. Again, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm weighing the possibilities and how much I think Halladay will help our chances of winning another WS (I believe he helps less than people seem to think), and I'm making my best guess at what will help our odds the most.

It's not going to happen but if Ruben gets Willingham for something like Kendrick/more fringe I will kiss him till the smug comes off his lips.

He's in AAA for most of next year and then comes up and gets ABs so he can take Werth's spot. Werth was a platoon player, iirc. Or you trade werth or victorino, who is going to start to be expensive, and go from there.

one of those is good. one of those is bad.

I dont think there is any way they would call him up before Carpenter or Carrasco (even if Lopez is hurt, one of them could pitch Sunday) unless:

1.) Happ is being traded and they need a starter Friday
2.) Hamels is hurt and they need starter Thursday
3.) Moyer has been released
4.) Blanton OD'd on Ho-Hos
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

a not loaded question to monkeyboy: how can halladay help less than people think in terms of the world series? being able to put the best pitcher in baseball out their twice in a 7 game series (we're making the playoffs), along with last year's MVP, is huger than the hugest of huges.

then I misunderstood your post, which is a pretty common thing with your posts.

and I have no idea what the 3rd line means, though I've seen it referenced on this board many times. I get it's a running gag, but I didn't see the origin so I don't get it.

I would rather Moyer retire and get a coaching job then outright release him, but hey if it means getting Roy then kick him to the curb by all means.

Man, I wish something would happen. I can't even be pissed if the Blue Jays don't trade Halladay; he is their playre after all, and the thing I despise most about New York fans is their sense of entitlement when it comes to things like this, so I don't want to become that. If the Phillies are out of it, I wish they'd say so. If the Blue Jays rally won't do it unless they get Drabek, I wish they'd say so. Then the Phillies could say "we're out of it then" or "we'll see." Then there would be reason to think one way or the other day.

Five days ago I was sure. Two days ago I was sure. Since last night, I've begun to waver. I still want Halladay to be a Phillies desperately, but I just don't know if it will happen now, and the not knowing is what kills you.

I'm hoping Kendrick was involved in a trade to the Nats for Willingham...

They need filler pitching, so this makes sense
