I can't believe that between A's Asst GMs Depodesta and Riccardi, Depodesta turned down the Blue Jay job, took the Dodger job, got fired and is not a SD Asst GM while Riccardi was Toronto's 2nd choice and is still there while doing a worse job.

since we're now just sitting around choking the collective chicken waiting for something to happen, i went to BP and looked at the PECOTA cards for the prospects being mentioned most frequently in the deal for Halladay. As you know, PECOTA is updated every year, and the projections on the player cards are based on preseason projections. So right now, PECOTA doesn't know what Taylor has done this year, or that Drabek is back from surgery and healthy. But you can look at how these prospects were valued by PECOTA heading into 2009. The Upside and MORP values are for 2009-2015, so a 7 year period

Drabek; MORP of $3.85M, total Upside of 9.0, WARP of -3.6
Taylor; MORP of $5.18M, total Upside of 26.3, WARP of 3.4
Marson; MORP of $22.63M, total Upside of 81.1, WARP of 13.7
Donald; MORP of $8.48M, total Upside of 44.9, WARP of 4.4

Again, this includes zero data from 2009. But Pecota saw a lot of value in Marson. I wonder how that's changed, if its changed.

Buster thinks we should overpay:

You can't stop the Phillies, you can only hope to contain them: That's nine straight wins and counting. But the recent improvement does not diminish the Phillies' interest in Roy Halladay, writes Andy Martino, and that's the way it should be. Here's the thing: If the Phillies don't add another starting pitcher, they'll be one Cole Hamels elbow tweak from having a rotation that probably would have trouble succeeding in October. I've written it before, and here it is again: Halladay is perfect for the Phillies in every way possible. He's got a great contract in that it's not too long and not overloaded with long-term obligation, and he would make the Phillies the favorites to repeat as NL champions. If I were sitting in Ruben Amaro's chair, I'd overpay to get him.

p.s. as much as I want Halladay, the answer to the question I keep hearing on AM radio about how to beat the Giants in October is to beat them 4-1

In the NLDS, only 3-1.

(I know, I know. Just kidding.)

Saw Buster on ESPN live about an hour ago. He says it's the Phillies and nobody else is positioned (or wants to position themselves) for Halladay. It's down to whether Ricciardi can get the deal he wants from the Phillies.
