So. I come back from the All-Star Game feeling that it’s about 60 per cent that Roy Halladay stays in Toronto for the rest of the year. I figure it’s easier to get maximum value for the guy in the off-season because teams have a chance to move around some money. And maybe the Toronto Blue Jays allow a team the opportunity to try and work out an extension with Halladay over the winter, which might maximize the deal even more. Plus, you know, no team in contention is going to give you two bona fide young major leaguers for a guy who, as good as Halladay is, will only pitch once every five days. The Blue Jays need:
1. a potential ace starter
2. a closer
3. a power-hitting third baseman or first baseman.
Those are serious, core issues. Halladay doesn’t fill them; not at the trade deadline with a contending team.
Then I hear Brandy Halladay on the radio and get the vibe around the ballpark Sunday and dammit all if it doesn’t seem as the cord’s already been cut. Now, I feel like it’s about 70 per cent he’s gone.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Meanwhile, everything I hear is that even with 11 days left the number of teams interested is down to a few: the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and maybe the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
As I wrote today, St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak has lowered his sights in the trade market. I’m told the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox aren’t all that interested because they don’t think general manager J.P. Ricciardi will trade within the division and because have both spent the past four years at least replenishing their minor-league systems. And as good as Halladay is, both teams have concerns about the health of several pitchers in their organization and the last thing they want to do is move two young cost-effective arms and suddenly find that even with Halladay they have to make another addition.

Drabek is a head case with some detractors in the Jays office. Kershaw's the real deal.
False/True, I guess ....

I also heard he said he would rather field a competitive team year after year then win another world series and then fall off a cliff. sigh
