Root, root, root for the Natinals

From rotoworld:

Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post reports that Stephen Strasburg's seven-year, $175 million extension includes $70 million in deferred payments.
Strasburg will make $15 million per season from 2017-2023. As for the deferred money, which has become typical with the Nationals, it will be paid without interest at $10 million annually from 2024-2030.
Yes son. I'm the best mono-thingy guy there ever was.

It's a raw deal and I feel ripped off, but I guess I'll have to take it.

That doesn't matter for luxury tax purposes. If they don't care about the tax then, good on them. But the deferred payments to guys like Scherzer and count for payroll purposes during the life of the contract, not afterwards. My understanding is that the deferred payments are only permitted now if they take the form of a deferred signing bonus, and payroll is always calculated as

Payroll value = (Signing Bonus/Years of Contract) + Annual Salary

The personal services contracts given to Pujols and Ryan Zimmerman back in the day are now prohibited by MLB.

Ted Lerner is 90 and doesn't give a shit about the franchise's financial viability or value after he's dead. Simplest explanation...

But just remember, Mark Cuban would be bad for baseball.

Short version: Boras jammed his hand in Lerner's pocket and counted up what the man carried as his walk around money, then he told Lerner that he wanted that amount time a bazillion. Ted, being Ted did not want to be out foxed, so he negotiated down to times a million. Boras faxed over the deal for signature, then he called the Nationals Front Office a few days later to let them know the deal was signed, and to make sure Stephen's paycheck was right before the next pay day.

All kidding aside, Boras certainly got the job done for his client and set a bar, as well as polishing up his own reputation. It is pretty spectacular to watch him play the Nationals, and Lerner specifically, like a master.

Season Plan Holders must have a Special Ticket to attend this event. Season Plan Holders may exchange out of their regular game ticket, and then purchase the Special Ticket to ensure access to the game, event, and giveaway item. Giveaway items are guaranteed to all Special Ticket event buyers. If Season Plan Holders do not want to attend the Special Event, but are interested in the associated giveaway item, a select number of the items will be made available on Red Carpet Rewards (for a set number of points) via your online account.

So if you want the promotion you need to buy tickets for the promotion, but if you are a season ticket holder you either do a kabuki dance where you give up your seats and repurchase (I bet the price has a problem a la my face value versus my purchase price) with tickets for salt and pepper shakers. Thank god I don't want S&P shakers. Why, however, do you need to buy tickets for a "promotion"?

Super 2 deadline is over and sans his very last start he was on a bit of a tear before that.

His stuff is MLB caliber already. His size and arm play at all levels. If the Nats think he's good enough to get his seasoning at the MLB level and can monitor his innings why keep him down?

No difference calling him up then or now really. Except that he may help the big league club immediately.

Giolito comes off as a very unique pitching prospect. One that no matter his numbers can dominate with his stuff at any given moment to almost any caliber hitter.

So, essentially Giolito is a flamethrowing space cadet? Nothing unique about that, at all.
