New Nationals manager Dave Martinez had every player on his team practice their walk-off trot to prepare for the inevitable game-winning hit this season.

DC crowds are on time if they make it to the third inning, but the day starts early in your nations capital, so the outflow is solid by the 8th, even for a ST game.

Its also a city w a fairly small footprint, so folks are coming from 1-1.5 hrs away commute time, trying to use a rail system that wasnt set up to have the stadium where it is.

Also, not a city with a rich history of baseball in the past 50 years, so no one has grown up w this team.

With all the type-A round here you'd think that people could be on time. Truth is that I struggle to make the first pitch often because of the traffic random number generator. I can magically get there in 20 minutes, or hours (with the new 66 pay to play gambit I need to figure that out too). The train is a wreck as it is both slow as crap, and there seems to be zero capacity planning for things like game day. The only upside is that if I take it, I get on at the end of the line and then suffer. I am completely serious about people missing the first 1.5-2 innings, and streaming out starting in the bottom of the 7th. Its pretty crazy.

Just whining. Since they do the DC choke in the postseason, they are a scared crowd. Its the time of year where they are preparing for the annual WTF just happened with the Caps, so they are primed for some self loathing. I asked whee they think he is headed and they love to say Yankees. He wants to be a Yankee, but they really can afford him now, nor do they really have room for him. Second guesses are Cubs or Dodgers. Just fear that he wants to go to a front runner.

I just nod my head and sip coffee from my Phils mug.

Stopped at a KMart closeout and got my son a Bryce Harper tee shirt with no team affiliation on it just his pic on the front with Bryce Harper 34... 3 bucks and by the time he grows into it in a year, he'll be a Phil
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

Nats operations really brought their D game yesterday. According to the mensuration tool on googleMaps, it took me over 40 minutes to move 152 feet through security, and that was the season ticket holder line. I did not know that Pizza is a thing at a game, it has to be something south of gas station sushi, but they apparently ran out of sauce in the third inning, then when they fixed that they were selling slice futures as after you bought then they told you they were making the pie (maybe I am missing out because there was a who lot of pissing about this). They ran out of buns at Ben's Chili Bowl for an inning or two. They had a strict limit on the really weird opening day tee shirt (that makes little sense on opening day, but it is wildly ugly and I am not sure what it is).

Although the team had nothing to do with it, the trek home was classic DC. Accidents galore, surface streets wasted, and the newest pay to play road (my bad because I have not updated my EZPass), was $17.50 for a fairly clear road (Waze said the surface streets were +30 minutes longer for the 12 miles I was driving), which apparently was a win as it was $42.50 for the 7 miles of the morning rush.

I kinda like the shirt. It has a little Space Invaders or even a Pinball feel to it, but is the two teams lined up on the baselines with the big flag and a flyover. Might seem strange for most teams but fitting enough for DC. The home schedule on the back is unique, but not a bad advertising idea.

The team likely had nothing to do with the food issue, either. I got in free to the final few opening days at the Vet because a friend of mine had the pizza subcontract with Aramark. He spent the day walking around checking supplies and making sure ovens were working, while I wandered around loitering and watching from various exit walkways until an usher would move me on to the next one. Apparently they didn't have this pizza guy, or s/he wasn't doing a very good job.

You are correct, it is the vendor's problem. I was more pissed about standing in line with one person working the metal detector & looking at bags. Mid-season form is roughly 3x the gate staff. I was in line through opening festivities, the lineup announcements, first pitch, and national anthem (they stop entry reasonably for it). I did make it to my seats for the actual game.

The shirt looks like a strange face to me. The F/A-18 flyover did not happen, so the shirt has some irony to it.

FWIW - If you though that the Phils being off Sunday was odd, the Nats/Mets are off today.
