the former Red Sox closer has filed a grievance against Washington for failing to pay his salary during the team-imposed four-game suspension at the conclusion of the 2015 season.
Papelbon was suspended by the Nationals after engaging in a dugout altercation with teammate Bryce Harper during a Sept. 23 game against the Orioles.
According to the sources, the player’s stance is that there is no precedent of a player having his salary withdrawn after such a team-issued suspension.
No date for a hearing has been set.

Wait, what? Do players get paid while they're suspended? I always thought that "suspended" was shorthand for "suspended without pay." Or is that just when MLB issues the suspension and there is the CBA-dictated appeals process?

Harvey's taking on Sid Fernandez dimensions. Scarecrow deGrom's headed for shoulder surgery, if not some other form of physical breakdown. Blockhead Syndergaard's movementless velocity will have baseballs leaving ballparks with remarkable frequency. Matts might turn out ok, if he has the stamina for more than 4 innings/game; Colon's doing his best gramps Moyer imitation, but his best isn't good enough.
Call me a contrarian

His locker is next to jovial Gio Gonzalez, a pairing of blithe spirit and Metallica. On Saturday, Pap, a conditioning freak who often wears a “Train to Reign” shirt, was agitating the laid-back Gonzalez about his workouts and his arrival time at the ballpark. When Gonzalez messed up a couple of fielding drills, Papelbon said, “Do it over.” Gio did. All fun but with a point. On Sunday, Gio was one of the first in the Nats’ clubhouse, perhaps a sight never before seen in Viera in February. “I kind of liked that,” Dusty Baker said of the Pap corrections. “Means I don’t have to say it.”
