When the Philadelphia 76ers hired Doc Rivers this past weekend, the general consensus among Sixers fans was, and still is, — good hire.

Rivers, 58, has a championship pedigree and — at least on the surface — should be able to help grow the respective games of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

But 94WIP Program Director and Rights To Ricky Sanchez Podcast host Spike Eskin, who admits he likes Rivers as a coach, doesn't believe he'll have as big of an impact on the franchise's growth as people think.

Eskin believes the bigger problem, especially when it pertains to that magic word accountability, goes above Rivers and into the front-office and ownership.

Eskin debated the impact Rivers will have on the Sixers on Wednesday's 94WIP Morning Show with former Sixers GM Billy King, who believes Rivers will help significantly.

"It's fine. It doesn't address the real problem," Eskin said when asked about the Sixers' decision to hire Rivers. "He's fine, he's a good coach, a good guy. Everybody thinking that Doc Rivers is some accountability master or point guard whisperer is wrong.

"Accountability in a basketball organization, or any organization, starts at the top. And the Sixers have exhibited the exact opposite of accountability with the organization. The people that have made all of these mistakes, that put them in the situation that they're in, are still here — above Doc Rivers."

King responded.

"But I think the one thing you have now in Doc Rivers is the first person here that has the credibility to tell all of those other people, that think they know more about basketball, to say, 'Look here, I've been around here.,'" King said. "And I think those people you're talking about now will listen to Doc more than they would listen to Brett Brown."

In an incredible turn of events, Spike's father Howard Eskin actually agreed with Spike — we think — for the first time ever.

I just heard a first! My son @SpikeEskin on @SportsRadioWIP was right about #Sixers. Just killed @bkdefend Billy King in a debate on hiring Doc Rivers with a still in place dysfunctional front office. @WIPMorningShow .

mtcal is right, we should protest until Harris sells the team.

Seriously - can we keep the talk radio stuff in the talk radio thread? We literally have a thread for it. And I know I am not alone, and others have told mtcal the same. This is a waste of everyone’s time.

wrt spike; who are the people that made the mistakes that are still here? Hosh Jarris is immovable, but the rest of the collab. crew? We're talking about Scott O Neil aren't we? I don't think those obstacles will exist anymore with Brand and Doc. Harris has seemed to have given this tandem his blessing.

Scott O’Neil, Alex Rucker, and Ned Cohen.

Nerds. But there is talk about restructuring the front office? And early word from Pompey tha god is Rucker will be cut loose. I suppose it remains to be seen, but I took Brand openness about the collaboration to mean that it's ending. Those other guys will eventually get reassigned to the Phillies

I thought all these front office people were blaming Brett for the free agency decisions? Now they're going to listen to Doc?

Billy King is literally the worst GM of the century not surprised he somehow ended up on WIP giving garbage takes like that.

King was better than Stefanski, the Thorn/DiLeo/Doug Collins consortium, and Brand so far.

I would release my detailed GM rankings, but nobody cared about my player rankings so it probably wouldn’t be worthwhile.

No way. Billy was worse than all of them. How many picks did he trade? Brian Skinner, Greg Buckner, Dalembert, Willie Green... giving me the shakes.

Then he had his nets run.

I was only counting Sixers tenure.

He traded away a lot of picks (and gave out way too much money/too many years when re-signing his players), but he was a better drafter than any GM we’ve had since and the team he left us with actually had good young talent on it (Iggy, Lou, Korver, Thad).

He wasn’t “good” but he was less bad than some other regimes we’ve seen.

the sixers 100% have a FO issue and that will definitely affect the product on the court. i'm just not sure that its going to be that dramatic this year. Whats being intimated by talk radio is that Embiid and Simmons and others are not ever going to be held accountable by their coach and will always slack off because the FO won't trade them? i don't even know where to begin.

i'm not sure work ethic has ever been questioned for any of our guys(except Embiid which i don't agree with). just gotta put our boys in a position to succeed!

Tragic story re: Embiid's dog, Klaus de Process...Jo's wife (fiancée?) posted Klaus suffered internal bleeding and later died after an elevator door closed on him. Think he was only around 3 years old. My dog played with him for a minute in Washington Square last year, he was a happy little doodle. RIP Klaus
