This is actually great news. I'm glad they realize they need to drag Meddleton out of the spotlight if they hope to get a decent replacement for Klentak.

Definitely an optics move, and I thought it was a great one, kept the focus on Girardi rather than on the power struggle narrative, and they came out better for it.

Long process? I don’t think they’re that far away from a 90 playoff caliber team for next year. Where I do believe he immediately contributes too.

If the long process is in regard to sustaining that 90+ wins for years to come, that I believe is a long process and an utter failure for those that were in charge of the rebuild. hopefully the front office made the correct moves over the past year with both scouting and development to build that foundation.

That was my read on it as well. Noticeable was the absence of Middleton and MacPhail at the PC. That was probably a good idea. Some folks stated that Klentak looked a bit chaffed during it. I didn't think that was true. It looked as though he and JG were on the same page.

TLDR (and skipping the food/small talk stuff):

-- why he picked the Phils: talented team getting McCutchen back and the bullpen won't be so ridiculously hurt, also liked the prospects that were on the USA team (Bohm, Howard, Seabold)
-- has heard the stuff from media about being too intense and serious but he actually likes to joke and listen to classic rock and country music
-- takes suggestions from coaches, trainers and front office about the lineup but he ultimately decides the order, not Klentak
-- "I don't get caught up in launch angle" ... it's how you get the ball in the air that's important, wants swings that stay in the pitch path longer
-- not a "work the count" guy ... his approach to hitting is "look for your pitch and do damage" like Houston does
-- hasn't broken down Rhys' swing yet but will work with the new hitting coach to get him back on track
-- on those lazy Latinos, says players have "adult tantrums" and they need to learn to control their emotions and be professional. Says benching players early in a game could have consequences later on, so the time has to be right for it. Would rather have a player get himself under control in the dugout and use benchings for blatant things
-- does not have a facial hair policy. Says Loria in Miami was behind the Marlins' one
-- working on getting the pitching coach under contract first then they'll concentrate on hitting coach later this week. Discussed Bichette but says a few names have been brought up internally
