idk, I think I'd be ok with Morin as a depth piece at that price, 7th or 8th man in the pen. Better than giving someone 8 or 9 million to suck.

Agree on all the rest

Wow Cesar. No thanks. Really want to see Kingery settle in to 2nd.

That would make Cesar the 7th highest paid 2B based on 2019. That seems crazy?

They've had control of him since he was 16, so it makes sense that it should cost a lot to control him for his 14th straight season.

Well, the Andrew Miller joke was beat to death on this board.

Side note. The Phillies (Middleton) has made his decision. An announcement should be coming shortly..

He's coming back. Expect an announcement in the next 24 hours.

What is your source on this?

TempleFan has a 50/50 shot at this one! Why not act like an insider for a few hours

I'm far from a Kapler hater, but I really don't get bringing him back after letting him twist for so long at this point. Doing so seems to severely undercut his authority and put him on a super-short leash for 2020 because if they stumble early, he's gone and they almost certainly have to play the interim manager game for the rest of the year, which likely wastes another season.

I can kinda see the case for it if it means the entire MacPhail/Klentak/Kapler triad gets fired at the end of next season if things go south to lead to a full clean start, but they seem to be already setting themselves up for a really bad situation for next year if he stays IMO.

I assume they’re just waiting on Maddon or whoever and all parties feel ok with running it back one more year if they say no. Weird situation.

It could be that they want to chat with someone who is presently in the POs about the manager position . Additionally, there is the possibility that if Kapler is terminated as the manager, that they could offer him a place in player development similar to what he had with the LAD.

The manager doesn't have this sort of impact on the game. If the Phils suck next year, it will be because of the players on the field (just like this year), not because of something the manager does or doesnt do.
I hate signatures, but I love irony.
