I agree. Rosters are built for nine inning games.

By the same token, rosters are NOT built for consecutive 14 inning days.

Desperate times.

I'd rather them play like 80 9 inning games though instead of double headers.

Roster thing seems workable. You have 30 guys available for the 2 games but can only use 20 in one game.

Seems like a good time to experiment. Any stats during this period are gonna be looked at funny regardless.

Not liking anything about this. I don't like the game changes or the idea of getting them all together.

There is no way they can keep virus from being transferred between the players during a game. All it will take is one player getting it and it will open a whole can of worms. Player A gets it, then they have to quarantine player A and anyone that came into contact with player A needs to worry. People can show no symptoms, so you won't know who player A may have given it to and you won't know who those people could have infected in turn. Can you imagine if a player gets sick and dies because they wanted to play 7 inning double headers with no fans? I mean, come on, this is insanely stupid. The tests aren't even good enough to know if anyone is carrying the virus to start.

Hard to believe public health officials would want this to happen. Sounds like something a political appointee of Trump would decide to do.

I miss baseball as much as anyone, but this is a really, really bad idea.

Doing this is risky. One player slips through the testing as asymptomatic and other guys get sick and there's going to be hell to pay. If the PM of Great Britain can get the bug, there's very little way to guarantee that 832+ MLB ball players will be all clear and can stay that way. The liability aspects of this proposal should shut it down.
Like or not, and I don't, but sports is going to have to sit on the bench for a while. All sports need to take a clue from what happened in LA when Jazz players that were ill played the LAK and spread it to them. Then came in a couple of NHL teams to share the locker room that the Jazz had and then Senators players and other members of the organization got the bug. The Sens played the Leafs and a couple of Toronto players got ill. On it goes. Playing now is perilous business for too many people.

Nothing would happen for at least a month and a half, obviously we'd have to see some serious progress.

MLB walked it back a little bit, they are considering many scenarios which is good to hear. Pretty obvious nothing will go forward until there is enough testing/immunity/treatment available (not vaccine), which is certainly possibly by early summer. It won't be a situation where "one guy gets it" and everything shuts down, any more than one guy gets food poisoning and maybe a few teammates also get it if they ate the same meal.

I wish the leagues would stop concocting these "bubble" scenarios. If the health conditions improve enough to get together for games, that means charter travel will be fine and you may as well play in your home facility and get your employees back to work. Fans might have to wait a bit

I think it is mainly MLB thinking about it, NBA and NHL are just trying to think about a way to salvage their playoffs where MLB is facing losing an entire season. Also MLB more than any other sport cares about season stats. I don't think it is about the fans as much as it is $$$$

Posted another article in the Phillies thread, but here's another interesting one about the Korean Baseball Organization's planned return to play shortly.

Every league is looking at every possible scenario. In an unprecedented time they're going to do everything in their power possible to play. Many of this is just spitballing and some of it is getting out.

It's why the hand-wringing columns about the NFL last week were laughable. Of course the league representation is going to say "we're focusing on playing a full season, on time, in home venues." But you're moronic if you don't think the league hasn't already thought of a million contingencies. The NFL just has the significant luxury of being able to wait months before unleashing Little Boy and Fat Man.

I'm sure even if MLB wants to do a "bubble" scenario, they'd rather do it like a pseudo spring training before they can play in home stadiums to play as many games as possible.

It's China. Couldn't they just use that day's dissidents before they disappear go on vacation?
