Ratings are a reason MLB wants to get out ahead of the NBA on returning IMO.

Say what? In the beginning, at least, a random Diamondbacks/Reds game would feel like the Super Bowl. No matter when it airs.

at least choose to quote the entire sentence in it's full context.

I said "no matter when it airs." Wasn't trying to misconstrue your point or slam you

I would eagerly watch random games I DVR'd at 3am

it'll be interesting and fun to give it a go. i'm for it. hell, i will probably try to sneak into a game.

AZ, they are going to play these games purely for the TV cameras. That means they will start the games at 4:05 p.m. AZ time, 7:05 p.m. EDT.

you're not going to play games at 4:05 pm when the sun is still out and it's 110.

even when the sun goes down, it's still in the high 90's when they start the az rookie league games at 8pm

They could do a "national game of night" and rotate the 4:05/7:05 game in Chase Field. There is no way games out of the dome will be played at that time though, unless they want everyone to die.

Hmmm...

Well, maybe they will play three games a day at Chase starting at 9:00 a.m. and have all the east coast teams exclusively play each other throughout this unusual arrangement. They could conceivably have start times of 12:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. EDT.

They could also play one game per day involving east coast teams outside starting at 9:00 a.m., to be completed before the worst heat of the day hits.

I think they are also looking at the models and assuming that they will only need to play in AZ for 3-5 weeks.

One way or another, I am sure MLB will figure out a way to play these games at times east coasters will be willing to watch them.

They should just make all the games 7 innings. Much easier to pack games in at good times.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

yeah this.... probably expand that to the "national double header of the night" probably can have two more east coast games for regional broadcast before that and do west coast games in the cactus league stadiums at 8.

have 6am local start times and rebroadcast later for east coast for other games that you can't fit into chase? i think you really need three indoor facilities to make it work well and at the very least two.

Covert the cardinals stadium and play whiffle ball at Talking Stick.

i think you're right on assuming mlb is thinking this hawk.

me, i'm not. think having 4 hubs for games and chartered flights for travel should be the plan for the summer.

I personally think it's a positive sign that they're even talking about this as being feasible with public health officials tentatively on board. If the capacity to test for the MLB is there, the capacity will increase everywhere.

I don't think they want this to be permanent for the 2020 season.

i'd' say that having them hangout in the stands 6ft apart is the opposite of testing capability.

Also kind of defeats the purpose if they're sharing a baseball that they throw to one another

Two quick things:

1. The average high on June 1 in Phoenix is 100.
2. The media saying Arizona is attractive because of the low # of cases is bullshit because we've tested the least # of people per one million residents compared to the four corner states (Utah, Colorado and New Mexico) and less than Nevada. Our peak is later in April, too.

Maybe I care too much about stats, but 7 inning games seems like too big of a change.
