pacino wrote:Was in a sport shot bowling tourney this morning...started off with the high on the lanes of 234(missing a 5 pin in there), then shot 193(almost a dutch 200). So I was 3rd after 2 games, with 2 to go in the qualifying for hte final stepladder.

Then the 3rd game happened. My knee tightened up(I rehabbed it last spring) and I couldn't slide properly, I started pulling the ball across my body and getting tough spares/splits, and shot a 146. 573 was still 9th and in the money and then I completely crapped out and shot a 132 my last game. That was probably the worst game I've bowled in who knows how long. I ended with 705 for 4 games which was still around teh top half of the field, but I could have done so much more. Everything worked against me those last two games and I got absolutely no luck and even missed easy spares(6-10, 1-2-4) and makable spares(1-2-10, 3-6-10). It was frustrating and if I was someone else I might have hit something. And I still got back half my entry fee because of the high game the first game.

Ugh, that was only the 3rd time I bowled on a sport shot, but at least I improved the first 2 games. I had no area the last two because the ball just hooked way too early for what I needed it to do...I'd need a ball that is either drilled to go longer or a shinier ball that hooks hard. I didn't have either.

Still, I'm starting to really hit them in league play because of the area, and in a regular tournament I bowled in last weekend where I missed the pocket twice in 3 games. These sport shots are definitely tough though, I plan on getting in a league in the summer.

Where did you find a sport tourney? There aren't any sport leagues or tourneys that I know of here in Ocean County. The only ones I have heard of are part of the South Jersey Bowling Association or something like that. I have been thinking of joining and bowling in a few tournaments.

Colonial/Berks Lanes in Berks County

They also are going to run 2 or 3 sport shot leagues in the summer. Bowl-O-Rama has a sport shot league for kids rightnow and may do that and an adult in the summer as well.

When I was at the University of Maryland my friend who lived in the area tok me to go bowiling (he didnt tell me it was duckpin) and I was shocked to see how small the pins and balls were. I never heard of duckpin bowling until then. I must admit I liked it better, it was fun getting drunk and chucking those balls halfway down the alley until it hit the ground.

strikes are harder to come by - even when sober

and I find spares are much harder to execute

but getting 3 tries give you more bowling for your money :)

Will the leagues be adult or junior? I'm looking to get in a sport shot league and I don't mind traveling down to Berks to be in one if I can't find one in Lehigh County.

I know the Berks Lanes ones will be adult, not sure if they have a junior one as well. Bowl-O-Rama may have an adult one as well

That's what I get for signing up to stay a junior just so I can bowl junior with the kids in my old league. Next year the last one that I bowl with will turn 18, so I'll register adult next year.

There are two PBA experience leagues at Berks Lanes(Tues and Wed) in Sinking Spring, PA and one sport shot league at Bowl-O-Rama(Tuesdays) in Exeter Township Reading, PA

IF anyone wants to travel a little for a challenge. I'll be in the BOR one because it's 10-12 dollars a week cheaper than the PBA ones at Berks. Berks will have all 5 PBA patterns though.

Just bought the Ebonite Total NV, FWIW.

I just got the Total NV last week, and that thing is AWESOME! It just makes a different sound when it hits the pins! Used it to finish 3rd in a tournament last weekend.

TOC for the PBA is on ESPN right now

I bowl leagues in 2 houses in Williamsport and 1 in Mifflinburg, and tournaments everywhere.

Just bowled states this weekend. The team house is brutal! Balls were actually BOUNCING sideways when they hit the lane! The singles and doubles was nice, but I didn't bowl as well as I should have.

I think Tommy Jones was throwing the Total NV yesterday. That was the first time I have watched bowling in a while. It has been so long I have no idea who Tommy Jones is.

Anyway, I am glad to say I have been averaging 225 in the month since changing my span on the MoRich.

I wish we had a sport league in Ocean County.

I finally used my Total NV for the first time tonight. 247-223-242 with 4 opens. The thing REALLY hooks hard late. I missed a 10, 7, 3-6(chopped) and a big ass split. I had to take out my plastic ball on a few spares, I wish I did that sooner or else I'd have had a much bigger score. Still a good night. I almost wasn't going to use it tonight but then decided to throw 2 shots in practice and they went right in the pocket and demolished the pins, so I kept with it.

Nice job. It's great when a new ball works. With the amount of money we spend on equipment it is hard to put a brand new ball in a bag to rot because it just doesn't work the way you want.

Is this a serious thread about bowling filled with jargon? Good.
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?
