Don't get me wrong, we have a great team this year. Problem is that 8 of our top 12 bowlers used up their 4 years of eligibility after this year. Our best 2 bowlers are coming back, but after that it's quite a drop off. Hopefully we get some new kids to fill in and get some guys back that took a year off.

Don't get me wrong either, I bowled 671 tonight and am averaging 205 and 198 at two different houses...but that's so much lower than what I bowled over the summer and lower than what I bowled back in high school. And it's not like I've been challenged with any really hard shots at one place(Berks Lanes).

Do you/did you bowl in college?

Nah, only high school and in leagues, but I took 3 years off of bowling. I bowl in 2 adult leagues now in Reading

I couldn't imagine not bowling. To each his own, though.

It was weird, but I didn't feel like lugging my bowling balls back and forth on the bus to the nearby bowling centers, which is what I'd have to have done. I can't just bowl at one center, I don't feel like I learn anything that way.

We have 2 up at State College, but last year I only went to one since I didn't have my car up there and the bus only went to one. It was a pain to lug them around, but I couldn't imagine doing without it.

It is funny that this thread is here. I just got home from my league and was going to start one myself. I am aggravated since my average has dropped from 217 to 209 the past couple months. I just got home from one of my worst nights of the year and feel like rolling my ball down the street. I am probably not a 217 average anyway but I my goal this year was to finish at 215 and I am not going to make it.

What equipment to you guys throw? Synthetic lanes I assume?

Track Rule GP2 or a Track Slash. I used to throw an Ebonite 2 piece stinger before I realized hooking the ball was good. I want to get a new ball, though since I've been trying to play the middle of the lanes more. In tournaments, you have to play in the middle or your not gonna get any hook.

Columbia Scout Reactive, Columbia Action Packed, and just bought the Ebonite Infinite One. I may also purhcase teh Storm Domination. Depends how the Infinite One treats me. I also use a 10 pin plastic ball.

I used to go with teh original Inferno and it was a great ball, but it's just dead now. I've only recently become semi-serious with bowling balls, after I started off so bad (I started off with my average around 185 after 2 months).

I have been using the same ball for almost two years now. I usually get something new every year but that was before I was married with a baby on the way. At the house I used to bowl in the Morich Total Annihilation was THE ball. It wasn't unusual to see at of them on a rack any given night. I think I need a change though.

I wish there was some sort of standard when comparing bowling balls. I have always found it very hard to compare a Storm with a Track with a Morich. Oh well...hopefully I will win enough money to buy a DSLR and a new ball at the end of the season.

The one thing I have learned is summer leagues are just completely different. If you get off to a good start you can carry it through the entire league. The houses usually don't put down the same oil patterns as they do during the winter. A couple summers ago I averaged 218 and this past summer I averaged 217 in two different houses. But last winter I was at 205 and this year as I mentioned I am down to 208.

I went to a free (if you buy a ball) clinic today at Carolier Lanes in New Brunswick with Mo Pinel. It was pretty good. He watched me bowl and changed my stance and my approach. I felt like Saying "Listen, I am averaging 210. I don't need to change everything." But by the end of the day after I bought the Awesome Revs I was throwing some bombs from across the middle (some breakdown in the lanes of course). If anyone is interested he will be in Allentown Tomorrow and Sunday and Maple Shade on the 30th. Of course I wasn't planning on buying the ball today but I wanted him to watch me throw the new ball. It was well worth it and I feel like he really showed me some things to help my game.

Was in a sport shot bowling tourney this morning...started off with the high on the lanes of 234(missing a 5 pin in there), then shot 193(almost a dutch 200). So I was 3rd after 2 games, with 2 to go in the qualifying for hte final stepladder.

Then the 3rd game happened. My knee tightened up(I rehabbed it last spring) and I couldn't slide properly, I started pulling the ball across my body and getting tough spares/splits, and shot a 146. 573 was still 9th and in the money and then I completely crapped out and shot a 132 my last game. That was probably the worst game I've bowled in who knows how long. I ended with 705 for 4 games which was still around teh top half of the field, but I could have done so much more. Everything worked against me those last two games and I got absolutely no luck and even missed easy spares(6-10, 1-2-4) and makable spares(1-2-10, 3-6-10). It was frustrating and if I was someone else I might have hit something. And I still got back half my entry fee because of the high game the first game.

Ugh, that was only the 3rd time I bowled on a sport shot, but at least I improved the first 2 games. I had no area the last two because the ball just hooked way too early for what I needed it to do...I'd need a ball that is either drilled to go longer or a shinier ball that hooks hard. I didn't have either.

Still, I'm starting to really hit them in league play because of the area, and in a regular tournament I bowled in last weekend where I missed the pocket twice in 3 games. These sport shots are definitely tough though, I plan on getting in a league in the summer.
