Every pick after the first 10 can sign for $125,000. However if a team sign guys in first 10 rounds for less than slot, then they can allocate the surplus to signing picks after the 10th round. So basically teams are going to pick some college seniors who have no leverage and others that they KNOW will sign below slot to then use that extra money to get guys who they may not be sure if they can sign later in the draft. And if you exceed your draft allotment by 5%, you get taxed to hell and back and if you exceed it by 5% or more you get taxed more and lose future draft picks.

Another fun little nugget is that if you lose a draft pick (like the philllies did for signing Bryce) you lose that allotment money from your pool and if you fail to sign a draft pick you can’t use their excess money to sign other guys. So if you don't sign the 1.1 pick, you can't then turn around and use his $8mil allotment to get some late round picks to sign, you lose it.

Man, those college seniors getting 5k and 2.5k bonuses. Not even enough to cover moving really. Less than some of their non-athlete classmates get.

At least they can say they played pro baseball though. I would’ve gladly delayed my desk job career a few years for that opportunity.

I think the 2K over slot for the 125K signees is some sort of an exception to the slot rule. I believe I read that on phuturephillies...a payment to offset moving of something...
