2019 Flyers Offseason / Preseason

Starting to think Savior was right. They should have traded Giroux this summer and just torn the whole thing down. This is the wrong direction for the franchise.

I'm not saying this isn't a head scratcher but that seems a bit much... Looks like Fletcher thinks they have the young star talent here and coming soon to pair with Giroux, JVR, Couturier that he needs to add veteran pieces with winning pedigrees to get them over the hump...

i think he'll go for another dman. i think he really fell out of favor. wilson didn't give a glowing review of him on the way out and i've seen the uncoachable term thrown around.

braun move is a head scratcher. not in acquisition, but in price.

Seems like a step back in his development

will play at boston u after that. not sure he ever makes it to the flyers org.

Why do you say that? Because the Flyers will let his rights lapse?

he'll have to sign right after his first season at boston. doesn't seem like he's on that trajectory.

You're trading him for pennies on the dollars and then you need to dump Jake and JVR too. I think ownership was tired of Hextall's approach so now we get the opposite.

I think there is too much talent to think they can't win hockey games... I'm putting a lot of hope in Vigneault and a whole season of Carter Hart and Myers plus a more experienced Konecny, Lindblom, Provorov, Sanheim, Hagg, Patrick, etc to go with Giroux, JVR, Couturier, and Voracek and maybe Hayes and the eventual arrival of Frost, Farabee, and Ratcliffe... that is a lot of talent that should seemingly win hockey games in the right system

That’s quite the haul for SJ.

Also I’d prefer to keep Ghost

Does Ghost, #11 and prospect (not Frost or Farabee) get you Mitch Marner (with a negotiated contract extension)?

Not saying it’s not a hot take. It is. They also haven’t won a playoff series in seven years and I am failing to see how these moves get them closer to a Cup.

Yeah, I just think ownership doesn't see how Hextall's moves got them any closer to the cup either, so now we get this.

I would say in a vacuum Braun makes the team better this year than a 2nd or 3rd pick would. That would be the case with almost any NHL player though.

Braun replaces Gudas. Look at this as a '19 2nd rounder and a '20 3rd for Niskanen. Not a bad exchange. It does look to me that Ghost is leaving town. Provorov-Niskanen
Sanheim-Braun
Morin or Hagg-Myers
That's a better defense than what the Flyers iced this past season. The return for Ghost should be pretty good. He's not going to bring back Jacques LeStiff.

They should’ve traded him a year ago when they wouldn’t have gotten pennies on the dollar. No need to re-litigate my position but we haven’t been a great team with him.
On a scale of 1 to Chris Brown, how pissed is he?

Brian McNally@bmcnally14

#Flyers should be better next season, but last year wore on Radko Gudas as Philly cratered and things turned toxic. Gudas: "It was a difficult year for us in Philly. A lot of people were looking for themselves. Some players were better, some players didn’t [handle it well]."

definitely played a part in the defensive acquisitions i think.

Bob McKenzie
@TSNBobMcKenzie

PHI and pending UFA Kevin Hayes are closing in on a multi-year contract with an AAV of around $7M. Term expected to be at least six years, perhaps seven. Prepare to take another UFA off the board.

With his contract and age don't know how much more value he had a year ago compared to now. Wasn't he coming off a bad season last year?
