ghost is a goner.

seems like a solid vet who has won a cup and can play in the top four. needed some experience back there. still think trouba or subban will wind up here.

This is still so weird to me. Athletic is great but O Connor somehow seems to have no editor. Nobody wants to read that shit

I don’t pay for the Athletic and I like Charlie O’Connor on the BSG Radio podcast. The tweet just made me laugh since everyone here complains and makes fun of the word counts.

I mean he has good insight, the numbers/stars he sites and argument he had for keeping and playing MacDonald next year was good and interesting, but was rambling and long, I copy pasted it into word and it came out to like 2,961 words. That was probably about 2000 too many.

Gudas is good to have if you’re deep in the playoffs on your third pair. Otherwise he stinks. Good trade.

With retaining salary, how does that work? Do we retain a partial cap hit?

Yeah. Gudas has a $3.35m cap hit next year, we are retaining about $1M of that. Niskanen has a $5.75m cap hit the next two years, so effectively he has a $6.75m one next year I guess with the retained salary from Gudas.

Per GM Chuck Fletcher: The #Flyers have placed defenseman Andrew MacDonald on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.

How would your rate Gudas on the Flyers last year?

So you gave up money and years and age- is niskanen that much better?
I would rather see you lose than win myself

Yes. The deal is worth it.
-Niskanen has a larger salary but is a fixed cost for two seasons. Gudas goes UFA after next season and will want more salary and term than he is worth to the Flyers.
-The biggest issue with Gudas is are you going to get the good or bad one on any given night. He was better last season with the penalties that he took but he could still flip at any moment and do a dumb thing.
-Niskanen has proven to be a leader on the back end and has worked well with young players. He did that with Orlov in Washington. The Flyers need someone like that with Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, Morin, etc.
-Additionally there is a bit of a health problem with Radko. He had a serious knee injury when he was traded over to the Flyers from TB. Since then it hasn't been an issue but at any time an operated on knee could go into something troublesome. Especially with the type of game that RG plays. Niskanen isn't know to have any health issues.

reading the reactions to the gudas trade on twitter/blogs you'd think the flyers just traded a young chris pronger

gudas was average at best but he made teh big hitzzzzzz so he's the best

the team and the fans are both stuck in the past

Full disclosure: I never minded the AMac trade and signing him I thought was fine (at the time). That was a bad take!

good synopsis. plus niskanen might be a better fit in the new system. definitely don't think they're done and we'll see another first pairing guy in here, maybe at the draft.

trade/prov
niskanen/sanheim
myers/hagg or morin.

seems like they are intent on trading for backup goalie too instead of bringing back talbot.
