This is still so weird to me. Athletic is great but O Connor somehow seems to have no editor. Nobody wants to read that shit

With retaining salary, how does that work? Do we retain a partial cap hit?
Per GM Chuck Fletcher: The #Flyers have placed defenseman Andrew MacDonald on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.

Benny Lava wrote:reading the reactions to the gudas trade on twitter/blogs you'd think the flyers just traded a young chris pronger
gudas was average at best but he made teh big hitzzzzzz so he's the best
the team and the fans are both stuck in the past

-Niskanen has a larger salary but is a fixed cost for two seasons. Gudas goes UFA after next season and will want more salary and term than he is worth to the Flyers.
-The biggest issue with Gudas is are you going to get the good or bad one on any given night. He was better last season with the penalties that he took but he could still flip at any moment and do a dumb thing.
-Niskanen has proven to be a leader on the back end and has worked well with young players. He did that with Orlov in Washington. The Flyers need someone like that with Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, Morin, etc.
-Additionally there is a bit of a health problem with Radko. He had a serious knee injury when he was traded over to the Flyers from TB. Since then it hasn't been an issue but at any time an operated on knee could go into something troublesome. Especially with the type of game that RG plays. Niskanen isn't know to have any health issues.
