I get that the investigation takes time but it's worth pointing out that this is causing real damage.

Because surely the GM is the only one scouting and evaluating players.

and the GM that they do hire is probably not currently selling appliances at best buy.

not to discount there is a ticking clock though and the situation should and better be resolved by the end of the week.

He's the one making the final call. Would you prefer the GM have seen an in person workout and interview of every potential target or no?

Sure, but as azrider points out, it's not like they're hiring someone who isn't already involved in some level of the scouting process anyway (either here or elsewhere) and/or who can get caught up quickly as a result.

At worst, new GM comes in and relies heavily on the scouting / evaluations in place and adds his/her own POV based off of that.

The Sixers are probably going to go w/o a GM for this draft unless they replace from within or hire someone who is currently out of the game. I can't see any organization allowing a guy to come over here now who has knowledge of their own draft rankings.

Bod's guess from The Athletic writers roundtable

Colangelo resigns sometime this week. The results of the internal investigation largely remain private. Somebody from within, probably Marc Eversley, is promoted to interim general manager to get through the draft and a search for the permanent president of basketball operations continues in parallel to the current scouting department finalizing its draft board

I'm not sure if more/better diligence would have allowed them to flag Fultz's situation before making the trade, but it does make me take the off court evaluation more seriously. Whoever this new guy is may be studying tape but unless he's in the room conducting interviews he's somewhat in the dark.

WOAH WOJ

An angry, embarrassed Sixers ownership group has been discussing the possibility of firing Colangelo, sources said. The Sixers are pushing for a resolution as soon as early this week.

The investigation has increasingly focused on Colangelo's wife as the author of a barrage of incendiary and revelatory tweets centered on Sixers players' personal lives, injuries, proposed trades, former employees and rival league executives -- as well as praise for Colangelo.

Colangelo's assertion that he was previously unaware of any tweets by his wife has been met with skepticism inside and outside of the 76ers. So far, ownership has been reluctant to separate Colangelo from any family member or close associate responsible for this embarrassing episode, league sources said.

wonder which side leaked that...

What if it turns out The Ringer’s unnamed source is Danny Ainge’s wife?

Ainge would have told her to not tell the Ringer as I am sure he enjoys dealing with BC.

this is completely untrue. it's what our legal system hinges on

Pennsylvania is an at will state. He can be fired whenever they want.

His contract has a huge bearing on this.

Can always fire him, question for contractual interpretation likely becomes whether he's entitled to severance

The contract could potentially require cause for termination superceding PAs at will nature, right?

How many GMs and coaches have Philadelphia teams fired over the years? Seems pretty unlikely that Colangelo has some sort of unique provision in his deal where he can only be fired for cause.

The "cause" aspect almost certainly comes in, as others have said, when talking about whether the Sixers have to pay him anything. He or Jerry may even have equity in the team which could make things hairier.

Guess Pompey is going to be right, but a week off (unless Colangelo miraculously resigns).

Wednesday: investigation finishes
Thursday: review data
Friday: fire him because Fridays are when you fire people

Only issue is that Game 4 is Friday

there is no schedule. Jamie especially keeps hammering home the point that there is an Independent Investigation going on. And this isn't a presser that you're excited to announce expectedly. One day will come and then boom, anchors aweigh

Well Woj or Aldridge said the investigation will be done Wednesday so I doubt they’ll sit on that for too long. And I was also just kind of making fun of the we fire people on Friday news

Uncle Milty wrote:Weren't the majority of those near the end of the contract term where the remainder was likely paid or they were terminated for poor performance (cause)? Most of them were also more narrow in position not GM and president of operations.

Unless front office contracts are completely different than other exec level employment agreements, Cause definition has nothing to do teams performance, and Cause and Good Reason definitions only come into play when determining entitlement to severance and/or whether equity or phantom equity awards are subject to accelerated vesting

Of the "typical" prongs of Cause definition the one that seems most likely to be implicated here is willful misconduct (lying)...assuming they can prove that he lied to Harris et al. Others typically include conviction or no contest plea to felony or crime of moral turpitude, material uncured breach of the contract (this could also be in play I guess depending on what confi provision says), inability to perform duties which persists for X consecutive days, etc
