Drenched in sweat while donning an all-gray outfit and high top blue and white shoes, Joel Embiid was enjoying every minute of his workout during Sixers practice Monday.
Between working on spot-up threes from the corners and a mix of mid-range shots, Embiid was the star of the room as he kept the atmosphere light with some jokes and playful heckling of teammates and even staff members. Afterwards, when the court cleared, he was out there at center court taking halfcourt shots, even taking on a bet he could make it facing the other way. (He eventually did).
It’s evident that the team’s 2014 first-round pick is in great spirits.
“He’s doing well,” head coach Brett Brown said after practice. “He’s on a different schedule that’s created to sort of keep his mood and spirit up. We don’t force him to be in front of us every second of his life. We love seeing him as much as we can. It’s good to see him.”
Embiid, recovering from foot surgery in August, is still doing the “basics” as Brown explained, but that it’s always a refreshing sight to see the 7-footer around his teammates.
While Embiid's still keeping it simple for now, his head coach can’t believe just how far along he is compared to this time last season.
“Mentally, he's leaps and bounds. Physically, what I see, he’s just a committed, hopeful athlete. He sees he’s doing the right thing and he feels like he’s doing the right thing. And he is. I just see somebody who just has that edge where he wants to get going. It’s night and day talking with him this time from December last year.”

jamiethekiller wrote:this offseason is basically the intersecting point of 'the process.' we know they're going to be active after this so its best to know everything about all of the players on the roster. with the top pick in the draft likely to be a big man i'd like us not to go down the road we did last year because of Embiid's uncertainty.
