Got it. You need your QB to play well in order to win a SB unless you have an elite defense.

This is a shocking revelation that I cannot argue with at all.

I also agree that it would be sweet if Foles would be able to pull that off this year. I find it interesting that if he does, he will have free blowjobs for life in Philly and if he doesn't then he will be burned in effigy forevermore. Football is a bitch.

huge difference between "play well" and "elite level" but whatever keep citing joe namath and trent dilfer in your argument that bad qbs can sometimes win a superbowl maybe

The QB tree out back has really been ripe the last two years. I suppose he could have drafted Geno Smith or EJ Manuel.

I need to take my own advice, and I suggest the rest of you do the same --

Stop drawing conclusions on Foles, at least til this entire season is over.

Foles is definitely a conundrum. We've seen him do some great work, and we've seen the kinds of things that say "journeyman".

He was sacked more last year, this year the INTs. Truth be told, if Huff doesn't fumble and we get a TD or even a FG, and if the refs realized that Polk had the first down late in the 4th, the two INTs would not have much mattered.

We don't know what the coaches are telling Foles and Chip being protective/defensive, may be a result of Foles doing pretty much what was asked of him. Obviously, the INT in the endzone was rough.

It's a different NFL and our guy is on pace for 4K yards.

We all have to acknowledge, that the running game looks nothing like last year when Shady lead the league in 20+ and 40+ runs. That HAS to be a factor of some sort.

And files wasnt even Chips first choice to be starter, Foles played his way into the role by throwing 27 TDs after the first choice got hurt.

Regarding QBs and winning SBs. Or even "reaching SBs".

Randall Cunningham's core decade was 1988-1998.
The QBs who won SBs in that period:
Montana (2), Aikman (3), Young, Favre, Simms, Rypien, Elway (2)

Donovan Mcnabb's core decade of 2000-2010

Brady (3) P Manning, Rothlisberger (2), Eli, Brees, Rogers, Dilfer, Brad Johnson

If you fill in 98-99, 11, 12, 13 you add Flacco, Warner, Eli again, R Wilson

Here's another way of putthing things with regard to SBs and QBs:

Starr, Namath, Staubach, BRadshaw, Montana, Aikman, P Manning, E Manning, Rogers, Brees, Young, Favre, Elway, Plunket, Dawson

See the pattern? The overwhelming number of SBs were won by HOF QBs.

QBs that didn't win but reached SB include Tarkenton, Marino, Elway, Kelly, Dawson, Favre, P Manning, Warner, Brady

So the Brad Johnsons, Mark Rypiens, Trent Dilfers are the exception, not the norm.

Not sure where one would put Phil Simms or Jim McMahon?

So the question is, where would Foles fall in this spectrum?

Again, I don't think we know yet, but the question for me remains the same -- can he be in the range of Flacco to Brad Johnson, or is more likely a Kerry Collins ? Because he sure isn't Brees, Rogers, Brady caliber... and he's not a running QB who can hurt you like McNabb or RC (or R Wilson, Kaepernick, Cam, etc..)

There is a correlation between elite QBs and reaching and or winning a SB. Though there are a few exceptions....

The point is, how to evaluate whether to stick with or not Foles. If you think he can find lightning in a bottle one season. Or if you think he can join the names in the list? If not -- then what's your decision to do with him?

How many starting QBs are 3rd round picks?

To me, it's a really interesting question what Chip thinks about Foles. Maybe CHip is a brilliant genius, and he knew Foles would struggle this season, but he'll be very good with some experience, so he switched Vick for Sanchez so no one would really be calling for Foles to be relieved of his starting job.

Vick was never good for more than a few games here and there. And he's WAY over now. He knows it too.

What comes after Eli TV? Do you have a young guy behind him? Do you think he has 3-5 more above average years?

Ryan just announced Vick as the Jets starter. Seems like they're about done with Geno Smith.

From Sando's QB Rankings over the summer:
Tier 1 - Brady (6th), P. Manning (1st), Rodgers (1st), Brees (32nd pick, high 2nd), Luck (1st)
Tier 2 - Rivers (1st), Roethlisberger (1st), Ryan (1st), Romo (undrafted), Wilson (3rd), E. Manning (1st), Flacco (1st), Stafford (1st), Kaepernick (36th pick, high 2nd), Foles (3rd)
Tier 3 - Newton (1st), Cutler (1st), A. Smith (1st), Dalton (37th pick, high 2nd), Griffin (1st), Palmer (1st), Bradford (1st), Tannehill (1st), McCown (3rd)
Tier 4 - Schaub (3rd), Henne (2nd), Manuel (1st), Cassel (7th), Hoyer (undrafted), Fitzpatrick (7th), Locker (1st), G. Smith (2nd)

If you add in QBs who have won jobs over guys on this list, Carr (36th, high 2nd), Bridgewater (1st), Glennon (3rd), Vick (1st), Orton (4th), Bortles (1st), Davis (undrafted), Mettenberger (6th), Cousins (4th)
