I'm talking about the town's deeply rooted pathology toward Dallas, not being salty about losing a game a couple weeks ago or upset we haven't won playoff games in recent years

Eagles are 19-16 against Dallas since 1998 including losing the only playoff game to them in that time. I am not sure that is owning them. Lifetime Dallas owns a 63-49 record versus the Eagles.

Why since 1998? Buddy owned them for a few years there, no?

I get it, they're a rival of ours that has won Super Bowls and had unsavory characters. But the point was that it's kind of weird how deeply a lot of Eagles fans hate them, especially when they haven't really done anything in a long time

It's called a rivalry. It's sports there is nothing rational about it. Just because a team has fallen on hard times does not stop them from being your rival. If the Yankees went through a stretch of 5, 10, 20 year "irrelevancy" do you think the Bawstan fans would stop caring?

That rivalry is much more storied and goes both ways, though. I think there's an above and beyond irrationality with Dallas hate, especially for anyone under, say, 40

Saw more 90s Dallas gear walking around Raleigh and Greensboro than I did Panthers stuff the past few days. I hate them but I hate their obnoxious bandwagon fans more

Imagine if the Yankees were in the Phillies division. It would be similar to that hate.

But now imagine that the Red Sox were in our division, too. Yet Phillies Nation hated the Yankees (who have done a lot more in the last 20 years than Dallas has, btw, but not as much as Boston of late) more by a huuuuuuge margin.

I don't know, my hatred was passed down by my father who is a Steelers (born in Pittsburgh) and Eagles fan. Some things are just inherited. I think a lot of it has to deal with the America's team and the mentality of Philadelphia, but I don't question it, I just accept it.

I hear ya. And full disclosure, I may be the weird one on this stuff. I don't hate rivals, per se, as much as teams that beat us in traumatic fashion (eg, 2002 Bucs, 2010 SF Giants)

silver and blue looks shitty. if i were picking a random team i would want it to look nice.
