People always start out fast, and then slow down. Plus, some of the big posters were either at the game or at work. There's a science to setting these lines. I won big on it.

Home game threads are always less than away game threads. The one on Sunday (if necessary) will be monster.

That Sunday game better be at night. My roommate and I are already going to have a freaking deathmatch fight over whether to watch the Giants or the Eagles. I hate to think how bad flipping will be if the Phils are involved.

I can vouch for this. Neither the Tornado nor I were among the fans heading for shelter and creating those unsightly patches of blue seats. Well, except the Tornado headed out to fetch ponchos for him and the lovely Mrs. Tornado and occasionally to check on her, but that's just being a gentleman, not a fair weather fan.

The weather did get nasty sometimes, and I wonder how much this affected the offense. Before the game, the wind appeared to be blowing straight out toward left field and it looked like a good day for home runs, but then the rain started and the wind shifted slightly and was now focused directly on section 208, row 8. While fans sitting here bore the brunt of it, it couldn't have been fun for lefthanded hitters who had the wind and rain in their faces, or for right handers who had to figure pulling the ball into the wind was useless.

I didn't realize that was Randall Simon during the sausage race (although I was hoping 1 was recruited to be a sausage). I don't know if it's been noted that Mitch Williams threw out the first pitch, sending it ten feet over the catcher's head into the backstop (intentionally, I think). Imagine that, two instances of a sense of humor breaking out at a Phillies game, by someone other than the Phanatic. Larry Bowa never would have stood for it.

Before Williams' pitch, there was a ceremonial pitch by a disabled police officer as well as a tribute to recently slain Philadelphia police officers. Philly fans get lots of criticism, including from me, but the ovation during this ceremony was loud and sustained, to their credit.

Fun game, although you had to wonder if Williams hung around to give advice to Lidge on how to close playoff games.

Thanks to RT for generously making the tickets available.

Not sure which got lost in my post:

1. Having Mitch Williams throw the first pitch to the backstop

2.Bringing in Randall Simon to batter a sausage.

There wasn't any mention of Simon hitting anything.

I think this thing will reach 80.

If the Phillies are in, there should be no flipping. Period.

Game 4 of NLDS v. Week 5 of season is not even in the same universe

Don't worry, someday you'll be a Master of Science like me, provided you can pass Organic Chemistry.

Which reminds me, this t-shirt from Questionable content deserves another plug:
