Tillerson's position on climate change may be to the left of Trump's.
ExxonMobil understood the connection between greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel use and the warming climate as early as 1977, according to recent reporting. It then proceeded to combat the idea, recognizing the risk posed to its industry by curtailing fossil fuel use. Only fairly recently did it acknowledge that link publicly, and the company is now on record in support of accepting the established science and identifying solutions to the problem of climate change.
That shift happened under Tillerson's leadership. The issue of climate change will be a potent one for whoever takes over the State Department, given the long-standing international diplomacy efforts to address the issue. Shortly before this year's election, ExxonMobil issued a statement in support of the sweeping agreement reached in Paris at the end of last year aimed at cutting down on carbon dioxide emissions internationally.
Trump said repeatedly on the campaign trail that he opposed the Paris agreement and has regularly expressed his opposition to taking action to address climate change. Tillerson, as CEO, promoted positions contrary to that. His most recent personal comments echoed the sentiment of his company, calling the threat of climate change “real” and “serious” — though the extent to which he was speaking as a representative of ExxonMobil vs. his own views is worth asking.

I don't know. Modern energy companies know that reliance on fossil fuels are not a good long-term business model. Under Tillerson's regime, Exxon took its first public position admitting that climate change is a problem and supporting the science. They'd had internal documents suggesting that was the case since the late 70s, so that was a long time coming. They publicly supported the Paris Agreement.Tillerson's position on climate change may be to the left of Trump's.

He's also a civil engineer by trade who worked his way up through the ranks, which is damned impressive.
And he's a former Eagle Scout who served as president of BSA. He was the president when the organization voted to allow openly gay members. That was a huge deal at the time for gay youths. http://www.dallasnews.com/business/business/2014/09/06/exxon-mobil-ceo-rex-tillerson-an-eagle-scout-to-the-core
So maybe the guy won't be so bad. I honestly don't think that his nomination should be the number one sticking point. For me that would go to Bolton as Deputy at State (rumored), Flynn, and Sessions in no particular order.

when you know you are destroying the planet and as a species you can't agree to stop it then maybe you get what you deserve. Maybe in the future lizards or giraffes will evolve into the dominant lifeform on the planet

Back in 2007, WWE ran a storyline that culminated with CEO Vince McMahon being blown up in a limo. You don’t need me to tell you that McMahon is still alive and was not actually blown to pieces, because you aren’t a moron who thinks wrestling is real. Apparently, the same cannot be said for our future president.
Last night, a 2008 clip from the Opie and Anthony Show began recirculating. In the clip, WWE wrestler/McMahon son-in-law Triple H briefly mentions the limo-explosion storyline, and then reveals that Donald Trump—a longtime pro wrestling performer, mind you—called McMahon’s office to find out if he had really died after the explosion aired:
