My biggest concern about a Trump presidency being nuclear war with China is looking good.

With Russia on our side we can come out big winners in a global nuclear war.

We'll get the best deal. Only the west coast will be nuked.

the Governor of Illinois vetoed an automatic voter registration bill, the Senate overrode the veto but the House failed to get the numbers to do it by four votes.

Illinois is now saved from this monstrosity!

Democrats who advocated for the override Tuesday were four votes shy of the 71 needed to have the bill become law despite the rejection from Rauner. Senate Democrats already approved a rejection of the veto.

The outcome shows a reversal from many Republicans who supported the bill before Rauner's veto. It also illustrates the impact of Democrats losing four House seats earlier this month.

The bill sought to allow visitors to a handful of state agencies to be automatically registered to vote unless they opt out. Rauner told lawmakers he liked the bill's concept, but feared there weren't enough fraud safeguards.

Howard Dean dropped out of DNC race. So the two big ones left are Keith Ellison and Jaime Harrison.

The Republicans plan to repeal ACA but not have it go into effect until well after the midterms in 2018.

Think of all the jobs they'll kill in those two years! Wonder why they want to delay it instead of implementing something new from their bag of tricks? I just don't know.

What the hell possessed him to make this call? Jesus.

He is trying to build hotels in Taiwan.

China has lodged a complaint.

This guy is either a devious actor or a fucking moron. Or both.

Perhaps he should go to the fucking intelligence briefings and cool it with the rallies.

I've been doing some deep dives on the internet. Like reading stuff that makes my soul hurt, but what I've gathered is there is a ton of white people in the US that voted for Trump because they're tired of being told they are racist, sexist, etc. From what I gather they seem to fall into four categories: the blatant & proud bigots, the bigots who try to just to justify their bigotry through intellect, the people that are just slightly ignorant but good folks all in all, and the folks who probably are fairly open minded but for whatever reason have been subject to a lot of abuse. it shows you how generally lucky we are as a country if this is a major voting issue, but it really appears to be a driver for large swaths of folks.

my hope is Trump's election inspires people to be better communicators. ideally better conversations amongst activist groups/participants/empathizers and the fairly reasonable folks that seem to be voting out of a defensiveness.
This is what a real tenderoni likes to do for you

The PA recount isn't going to happen

In Wisconsin about 1/4 of precincts have been recounted, and Trump leads by 12 votes more than he did when it started

The Green Party got a lot of money tho

Green party and anyone who ever voted for them or sent them money should die a quick but painful death.

your mastery of insignificant points is well-documented.

Me, I'm all for running the details of this nightmarishly farcical election outcome over & over like the fucking Zapruder film, so that etched alongside the harsh reality of the official outcome in our collective minds are details like the equally harshly lopsided popular vote count, and how that count is pretty much unassailably legitimate, so that when the gob of shit who lost that vote by millions of votes proclaims a landslide victory any person's first impulse is to laugh right in his fat ugly face, and to remind us that the revolting disgrace our National Process Error has put in charge of things may wind up doing serious harm to people you know, or I know, or people we know & care about know.

But enough about voting; let's talk about fascism.

Someone recently sent me a link to this 1995 essay, a field guide to the subject, if you will, by Umberto Eco.

I'm not sure if they were trying to cheer me up

I am ecstatic for Carrier employees! Their bosses just decided to keep shop onshore. What a relief for hundreds of workers. Merry Christmas Indiana!

same speech...

Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.

Long and frightening article about google and facebook and how fascists and other racists are able to manipulate their search algorithms in pretty nasty ways.
