Probably referring to the highly classified super advanced robot spaceships that we have in orbit that he just learned about yesterday in his first high-level intelligence briefing.

My dream is that Trump for some reason passes some kind of gun control legislation...anything to make it appear as if he is taking somebody's guns!

So that is the mess of the matter. Without Electors, and the Electoral College, then what, just straight votes? That is not mind numbing.

To review:

- There are 538 electoral votes (i.e., why 270 matters, and why FiveThirtyEight.com is named)
- Each state receives one electoral vote for the number of members it has in the House of Representatives (435)
- Each state receives one electoral vote for each of its members of the Senate (100)
- The District of Columbia has three electoral votes (3).

- It is winner take all in 48 of the 50 states and DC.
- It is screwy in Nebraska and Maine where these states potentially split the electoral votes according to the number of votes each candidate receives and how the votes were distributed.

Some have indicated that scrapping the EC, and working the simple math of winner takes-all is great (it would have only changed how badly the beating was), while others suggest that some type of state wide splits could be calculated (potentially allowing the middle of a state like PA to really change the complexion of what its vote looks like), making the calculation harder (while providing more candidate money to local concerns the working election system).

What is a good answer? There are not many choices in my opinion except getting rid of the EC while keeping the EV distribution as governed by the state which would allow the easy math to be worked out.

One quirk is that the whole Electoral College was established because the simple citizens were not really trusted to make quality decisions above influence, which wold make the argument of many that the EC should vote its concision for the good of the nation based on the election 2016 results. I mean, come on it was Hamilton that laid it out that there was essentially a fear that a tyrant could manipulate public opinion and come to power, he just could not have understood what that looks like in 2016.

It's embarrassing how much Paul Ryan is kissing Trump's ass.

He's going to be one of the first ones that Trump screws.

we're all socialists, it's just a matter of degree. :)

but that's exactly what Bernie should say. He needs to wield HIS power for the good and try to be as much of a check as possible. It'd be good if Warren got the new Senators into her camp, as well.

I don't know what you meant by this bolded part. HRC leads the popular vote and will probably pull away slightly as California concludes its absentee ballot count.

Like you, I don't think going to a straight populist vote is the best answer, but there's got to be a way that doesn't overvalue the voice of small states. They already receive a disproportionate voice in the Senate--they shouldn't also get upgraded in the presidential vote too.

That and the disincentive for opposition voices to cast a ballot in "safe" states is more than enough reason to want an overhaul. For example, here in Virginia, we didn't have very much on the ballot other than President and Congress. Our statewide elections are in off-off years. With no Governor's race to vote for, if we were still a safe GOP state, I can't imagine how bad our turnout would be even in election years. (That's one of the reasons that you see so many states with controversial ballot initiatives IMO--to stimulate turnout.)

I've been doing enough reading on this over the past 24 hours that between the volume of ideas, the stress of this week, and the lack of sleep, I really don't know what my preferred solution would be.

Don't worry, profile-in-courage Chuck Schumer will save us...

Democrats will finally realize how much Harry Reid did.

edit: Don't forget, though, that they basically created a position for Elizabeth Warren in the Senate leadership. She'll be trying to craft policy...she'll probably be implemented to find ways to keep things from being undone in bills. Her response:

“When President-elect Trump wants to take on these issues, when his goal is to increase the economic security of middle class families, then count me in,” she said.

But she pledged to fight him on his signature campaign issues — deporting people in the U.S. illegally, cutting taxes for the wealthy, repealing President Barack Obama’s health-care law, and rolling back regulations of the financial industry.

And she promised to push back if Mr. Trump continues to use the divisive rhetoric of his campaign attacking groups like immigrants and Muslims.

“That marks Democrats’ first job in this era: We will stand up to bigotry,” she said.

Gary Aleppo:

It is a rare privilege to play a part in shaping the future of a great nation. By offering Americans an honorable, principled choice in this election, and being joined by thousands of supporters and volunteers to make a credible third party ticket part of the national conversation, we took significant steps toward reshaping the political landscape. For that, I am both proud and grateful.

This campaign was not about Bill Weld and me. It was not even about 2016. It was about a small government, greater freedom movement that I am confident will take hold and grow well beyond this election. It was about showing millennials, young people and all Americans that they do not have to blindly accept a two party duopoly. We have hopefully set the stage for that movement to flourish and have real success at the polls.

This is a great nation filled with great people. Bill Weld and I are honored to have provided a voice for millions of those great people, and deeply grateful to all those who made this historic effort possible.

Today is a day to wish the President-elect our best wishes, and a sincere hope that, together, we can get about the business of addressing the challenges this great nation faces.

it's going to be infuriating to watch democrats bend over backwards to work with the trump admin "for the good of the country" after the GOP did nothing but obstruct obama for 8 years. at the very least conservatives should be able to admit to themselves now that the GOP obstructionism of the last 8 years was driven largely by racist sentiment, the same sentiment that culminated in a trump presidency

this is already making me so mad. block them. fuck these assholes.

trumps wants to have an infrastructure bill! Dems have tried for years and years. Republicans said no no no! I am sure though the people who voted for him know that though!

What if Trump pushes through bills that give liberals what they wanted all along? Infrastructure bills is a phenomenal example. We already know his political leanings are all over the place, and he's not a traditional conservative. Do they, and should they, oppose him because he is a sexual assaulter?? I have a hard time getting behind that, and I hate Trump.

Plus, it gives them credibility to oppose all the lousy stuff that will inevitably get passed.

The 2018 Senate vote terrifies me. It is imperative to win, but it does not look winnable.

Of course you pass the infrastructure bill, provide it's not a joke of a bill. You oppose things that merit opposing. I think cballs is more responding to the idea that the Republican obstruction was basically rewarded at the ballot box. people were tired of gridlock and so they gave every branch to the party that created the most gridlock.
