PRIMARIES are real things. we can use them for 2018.

That's one of the few good things to come out of Hillary's defeat. We're now officially done with that older generation of Democrats and can develop a honest-to-god bench over the next four years.

If Trump wants a second term, he simply can't govern in the way that we fear or else the GOP will get slaughtered in 2020. I honestly do believe that.

I also fully anticipate a fair amount of in-fighting on the Hill between the Ryan segment of the GOP, the Tea Partiers, and Trump. Outside of some of the easy wins for Trump (federal hiring freeze, tax cuts), a lot of the other parts of his agenda are going to be hard to accomplish, including the repeal of Obamacare.

Does anyone else feel extremely uncomfortable with the petitions urging Electors to not vote for Trump?

IMO, that's a terrifying precedent to set. This is our system. Our candidate lost fair and square. Urging a subversion of the process for what we believe to be the right result is not healthy.

Those 2 WA state never-HIllary electors weren't planning to wait for any steenkin petitions to countermand the "will of the people"....

This is America - everyone wants their due process/day in court/chance to make their voice heard/etc etc
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Oh I have no misconception that it would actually happen. I'm talking about that even becoming part of the discourse after an election.

And what if it actually did happen? If we think that Republicans were obstructionists and delegitimized Obama's presidency, they'd be (rightly) cranking it up to 11 against Hillary if that somehow actually happened.

The fact that two Electors in Washington said that they'd never cast a vote for Hillary is anathema to me. Washington's Electors are bound to follow the popular vote, but I was disturbed to find out that the penalty for violating their state law is a whopping $1,000 fine.

I feel like odds are reasonably good drumpf does something within his 1st year of office so offensive/criminal that even R congress will find impeachment proceedings unavoidable

Um, so we'd have President Pence?

No thanks, I'll stick with Trump, believe it or not. At least until I know what he's going to do. There's a very real chance that the GOP fucks this up.

Yeah the petitions are more in-denial divisive bullshit. Kind of the opposite of what is actually needed to prevent this from happening again in 2020
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

political theater is theater 1st, and impactful (hate that word; is it even a real word?) politics second. So yeah, it's 'pointless', but people be what they be. I mean, drumpf embodies pointlessness

The odds that Pence does something that blows a good-sized hole in the planet are lower than the odds drumpf does, for many reasons, among them - he's low-energy

we shouldn't even have electors

i would not be for them not voting for who their state chose, however.

“I just had the opportunity to have an excellent conversation with President-elect Trump,” Obama said. “It was wide-ranging. We talked about some of the organizational issues in setting up the White House, we talked about foreign policy, we talked about domestic policy. And as I said last night, my number one priority in the coming two months is to facilitate a transition that ensures the president-elect is successful.”

Obama went on: “I believe that it is important to all of us, regardless of party and regardless of political preferences, to now come together, now work together, to deal with the many challenges that we face.”

Trump spoke next, and took a respectful tone toward Obama — “I have great respect,” he said. He said that their meeting was supposed to be brief, but, it “lasted for almost an hour and a half, and as far as I’m concerned it could have gone on for a lot longer.”

“We discussed a lot of different situations, some wonderful and some difficulties,” Trump continued. “I very much look forward to dealing with the president in the future, including counsel, to explain some of the difficulties, some of the high-flying assets, and some of the really great things that have been achieved.”

He also called President Obama a 'very good man'.

i see lots of 'time to move on' sentiments. I think the very opposite. I think everyone needs to listen to the Van Jones interview with David Axelrod. It's great and makes you FIRED UP to never give up and keep fighting for our principles.\
Hope. Never lose hope. I'm no longer sad. I'm sure I will be at times going forward, but it should fuel us, not dispirit us.

This definitely makes me mad too. Don't worry though, Ted Cruz will fuck it up somehow.

Between that and Trump suddenly speaking well of Obama and Clinton... it's so damn frustrating.
