I just had an eye-opening conversation with our cleaning lady. She's Hispanic (not Cuban) and an immigrant who came to the country a couple of decades ago. She's also very involved in her local church with similar demographics to hers.

She told me everyone in her church voted for Trump. Why?

. The Obama administration is "teaching gay and anal sex to Pre-K children." Her daughter is having a "problem with a lesbian" and she told her son "God made you a man. You were born a man, not gay."

. The economy is horrible. When she got here there was work for everyone. (She liked Bill Clinton, by the way)

. ISIS is already here and Trump will get rid of them. As a corollary, the 9/11 attackers entered through Mexico.

. She wants to show me "the film" showing Hillary aiding the terrorists.

My takeaway, anybody who thought Trump turned off all the non-Cuban Hispanics missed the bigger picture of them and their views.

I think I would, at least today.

Palin was the biggest deterrent for me. As much as the dems tried to be outraged at questions of Clinton's health by calling them misogynistic, it was nothing compared to everyone swearing up and down that McCain would die within four years leaving us with President Palin.

I'm more interested in the people who didn't vote rather than the ones who did.

So because I'm fucked up in the head, I take an antidepressant and occasionally visit a counselor. Today I had an appointment with her. I made the mistake of bringing up the election. I had pretty much suspected based on previous conversations that she was a republican, but mostly based on fiscal issues, as she's kind of a hippie in many other ways. I never would have ever guessed she would have actually voted Trump, but lo and behold she did.

She railed on and on about how horrible Obamacare (and Obama in general) is, and went on about how much better off everyone will be and how Trump's "policies" are so great.

When I brought up the racist, hateful, horrible shit he's said and encouraged, she said that she doesn't see that because she doesn't go on social media and that's where this stuff is being perpetuated and doesn't accurately reflect reality. I'm fairly certain she's never really known a minority ever. In hindsight I also remember her making some remarks in the past that would indicate some closet racism, but I had always given her the benefit of the doubt.

At the same time she also admitted that Trump is a vile pig and it was a "tough choice". When I brought up the pussy grabbing and misogyny she wrote it off as locker room talk. This is a woman who I'm sure has had to counsel victims of sexual abuse, just writing that stuff off. All she seemed to focus on was this idea that we're all going to be making more money somehow. She had a rationalization for everything.

I sat there stunned. Don't know if I'm being fair or not, but I pretty much lost all respect I had for her and can't imagine going back. How can she of all people not see how mentally unstable and dangerous this man is? Maybe I'm not really that fucked up in the head after all.

To me what it comes down to is voters hated each candidate, but the white trash vote dominated the black vote, which killed her chances.
